I had pheasant and it felt like I was eating medieval food on the market. Thank god it smelled better.

Our experience at Antica Trattoria Papei was perfect! Attentive service, tasty, home-made food, on a lovely outdoor terrace. We especially recommend the wild boar stew—outstanding!

Nice place and good food for a reasonable price. The woman of the restaurant looks you out of the tent fifteen minutes before closing in the afternoon and for her it was perhaps not a good day but everything was prepared with a sigh not very hospitable otherwise the staff is very nice and they certainly do their best so in conclusion highly recommended

In Piazza del Mercato, away from the crowds, lies this gem! Traditional Tuscan cuisine is generous, just like the portions served! Most dishes are €12, and delicious! There's a very large terrace and dining rooms on the ground floor and upstairs, perfect for large families looking for a taste experience!

I went on a private tour and the driver took me to this restaurant. It wasn’t the place I wanted to go. The driver insisted we go there and then helped himself to lunch with me and on me. The server was very nice and extremely helpful in choosing a wine. The wine wasn’t what I had in mind and I had to buy the whole bottle instead of a glass but the server made an honest effort, which I appreciated. I ordered the spinach and ricotta filled ravioli with mushrooms on top. Along with a side of string beans. The strings beans were flat like fettuccine and I swirled it on my fork. It was in a tomato sauce with soft tiny carrots. It was on the salty side but absolutely delicious. Everything was fresh, but the ravioli was just ok. It was fresh it just didn’t have savoy. It’s not a restaurant I would go back to but it’s fine if you don’t want a lot of seasoning. The string beans kind of balanced the meal out. Check your bill and watch the older lady who rings you up. She charged me 10 euros more. Luckily my driver was there to point it out to her and enforce that she change it because she didn’t want to. He ended up being of great use and he asked the waiter to allow me to taste a sweet after dinner wine which was delicious.

Very good restaurant, superb service, and a magnificent view. A plus for French-speaking visitors, since the waitress speaks very good French. The only downside was that it was hot, despite the umbrellas and the shade. I recommend it!

Excellent value for money. Very welcoming atmosphere and a lovely location in the market square. We'll be back.

Locale antico ma vivo e dinamico in piazza del mercato. Ottimo servizio malgrado il locale fosse strapieno. Piatti tradizionali senesi con, tra gli altri, bistecca alla brace e fettunta. Il cameriere di sala rapido e sorridente. Prezzi contenuti per la qualità fornita.
