Thanks to the guide books, the tourist crowds are waiting in line at Roscioli, the upscale food store cum restaurant. It is pricey and increasingly fully booked. A few blocks away, on the edge of Campo di Fioriis is this somewhat more blue collar salumeria. They have been in business since 1919,and have plenty of fine meats, cheeses, etc. They will even make you a decent sandwich and you an eat it in a simple room in the back. It may not be as fancy, but it is the real deal. Also, you can duck the hyper touristy establishments around the square.
