We wanted to introduce some friends from Belgium to authentic Brianza cuisine, and, following a recommendation, we opted for this historic Monza restaurant.
The atmosphere is pleasant, with exposed brick and beautifully accented arches. Service was prompt and adequate, although the bread wasn't particularly fragrant.
As for the appetizers, there's nothing to complain about about the quality of the Montevecchia cheeses, served on a thin layer of oil that isn't particularly fragrant. The charcuterie board is basic in quantity, but the ingredients are good.
We had some concerns about the first courses: the risotto alla Monzese and the risotto alla Milanese, well-creamed but with slightly too soft grains, were identical in base, with the only difference being two pieces of sausage placed on top in the former.
The ossobuco was more disappointing: the meat was rather dry; the gremolada was missing (perhaps a choice by the chef), and the sauce resembled that used to season the risotto sausages, resulting in a lack of character. The desserts were good, the classics. I expected the traditional torta paesana (country cake) as per the menu, but I had to settle for a Kraut-style Sacher torte.
Overall, it was a decent experience, appreciated by the foreign guests, but a little less so by me, a native of Brianza, who was hoping to find a special place, especially considering my expectations tied to tradition.

In the heart of Monza, this is an extraordinary example of a beautiful, old-fashioned Lombard trattoria, serving hearty, well-prepared traditional dishes (the casseula and saffron risotto with ossobuco are exceptional, as are the wild boar stew and grilled vegetables).
The house red wine is full-bodied and structured, making it an excellent and affordable alternative to a bottle in an area of Italy that doesn't produce top-quality wines.
The service may be a bit "rustic" and certainly not "soft-spoken," but that's exactly what you'd expect from a place that's deliberately kept away from tourists.
The bill is a pleasant surprise (less than €30 per person with water and coffee), considering the central location and the historic character of the place.
A must-try if you're passing through, perhaps to visit the Duomo or the Cappella di Teodolinda, which are just steps from the trattoria.

A pleasant surprise that I'd gladly make a habit of: traditional Lombardy menu, well-prepared. Excellent service. Located in the historic center, a place that would be a shame to renovate.

A wonderful experience in a historic Monza restaurant serving Brianza-style food. We enjoyed polenta and ossobuco with artichokes and Montevecchia tomini cheese. Finally, the homemade desserts were unique. ☺️🥳

Welcoming and friendly atmosphere. Professional and friendly staff. The food is excellent and the prices are reasonable for a historic restaurant in the historic center of Monza. I recommend it to both couples and families. I will definitely be back.

The historic reputation of this place frozen in time has been confirmed. It's a vintage hotel, old-fashioned in the best sense of the word, and family-friendly. Is the rating for dinner at the restaurant, which perhaps feels more like an inn? We had an excellent house wine, a tartare that was a bit too salty but excellent quality, a memorable ossobuco similar to some grandmother's, and tagliatelle (a bit thick and tough, which I like, but not for everyone) with an excellent mushroom sauce. The tiramisu was made fresh, among the most remarkable I've ever had in a restaurant.
I'll definitely be back.

Passing through Monza, we stopped at this recommended restaurant. We ate typical dishes like "elephant ear," polenta, and risotto, and found everything delicious. Excellent value. Reservations recommended.
