Hotel Castor is honestly the best place we have ever stayed. It is incredibly warm and cosy, and the staff are completely out of this world — nothing was ever too much trouble.
We are a family of four (two adults and two children aged 5 and 7) and stayed at Hotel Castor for a week’s skiing. Our room was lovely, cosy, and spotlessly clean. The food was incredible, and the staff genuinely bend over backwards to do absolutely everything for you.
There is a free transfer to the gondola, even though it’s only about a 10-minute walk. You simply phone, and they come straight to pick you up! The restaurant staff were so friendly, and we were even given big hugs at the end of our holiday — it truly felt like family.
The hotel is family-run, and you can really feel how much love and care the family put into the place and their guests. The bar area is perfect for relaxing with a drink, a cup of tea, or a book after a long day on the slopes.
An added bonus for families is the playroom next to the bar. Don’t worry if you don’t have children — you can’t hear them! Our kids happily played for a couple of hours before dinner each evening, leaving us parents to enjoy some quiet adult time.
Hermon, the owner, is amazing — hosting wine tastings, music nights (every Tuesday), picking guests up from the slopes, and then later pouring your wine in the evening. He truly seems to be everywhere!
We cannot recommend Hotel Castor highly enough. We would love to return in the summer and cannot wait to see you all again. x

As a well-travelled 40-something, I can say with some confidence that this is the best hotel I have ever stayed in. Not because of high end finishes or facilities; no, because of how the proprietors and staff made us feel - supremely cared for in every way.
This is a true family business, owned and run by husband-and-wife Beatrice and Herman, with the younger generation actively involved too. That sense of family permeates everything. Nothing was ever too much trouble. The daytime shuttle service, which we used often throughout the week for lifts here and there, felt like a bit of an imposition on our part, but not once were we made to feel that way. Every request was met with “of course”, or “no problem”, which always felt genuine.
We stayed here with our young children and made more than a few out-of-the-norm requests to accommodate them (yep, we were ‘those’ guests). But not once did anyone bat an eyelid. The flexibility and kindness shown to us was remarkable.
The food in the restaurant was outstanding, particularly in terms of interesting vegetarian options, which we have often struggled to find in Italy. A beautiful cake was produced for our friend’s birthday during our stay, along with a show-stopping ‘happy birthday’ presentation (we weren’t expecting the disco lights!) The team really went out of their way to make it feel special.
Our main waitress for the week (forgive me if I’ve got this wrong, but I think her name was Svetlana), was exceptional - an absolute master of front of house hospitality: remembering our wine preferences, quirks in our orders, speedy as lightning. The rest of the waiting team were fab too.
We had the pleasure of being looked after by Maria for our first evening meal, who was such a joy - sweetly apologetic of knowing little English (which mattered not to us) but made us feel like we’d been adopted by our very own Italian nonna.
The bar and lounge is a triumph, jam-packed with squashy sofas and armchairs. Delicious wines and a well-stocked bar offering pretty much any libation you can think of. Tea and biscuits laid out every afternoon. We couldn’t feel more at home. The thoughtful play area for the children in the basement also meant that on more than one occasion we were able to enjoy some uninterrupted pre-dinner adult conversation, which we were very grateful for!
Herman and Beatrice are the heart of this place. Their interactions with guests are personal, sincere and entirely unforced. Staying here felt less like being a hotel guest and more like being welcomed into someone’s home, which, evidently, we were.
All other hoteliers take note, this is hospitality at its very finest.

Absolutely fantastic hotel in Champluc! The staff are so nice and personal. We had half board and were very satisfied. The breakfast consisted of a good buffet with everything you could want, yogurt, sandwiches, scrambled eggs, pancakes, freshly squeezed orange juice, nutella etc.! You could also order omelettes and crepes à la carte. The dinner consisted of a 4-course meal and you could choose between several dishes. We were always so full and the food was delicious. The rooms were cozy and cleaned every day. There is a bar at the entrance with cozy sofa groups. Highly recommend this hotel!

This Alpine-style hotel, seemingly owned by the same family for years, has maintained its comforts without overhauling the property. Recently renovated rooms with balconies, wood-paneled and scented with pine, are very comfortable and well-soundproofed, offering mountain views. Excellent full breakfast and a superb dinner with a traditional menu. A well-stocked wine list is available. Friendly and efficient staff. Parking is available in the internal garden. Conveniently located near the town center and sports facilities, including the spa.

The corner room assigned to us is furnished in Alpine style, well-designed, and features a large bathroom with a huge, modern shower and three different water flow settings.
A French window leads to the spacious terrace and four windows (one each).
Extremely bright! A feature I really appreciate.
The room overlooks Champoluc's main street on one side, with shops nearby, and the hotel's well-maintained garden on the other.
The hotel is very close to the pedestrian path that runs alongside the Evançon stream, offering pleasant walks that lead to the sports facilities.
Hotel Castor has many small nooks furnished with velvet sofas and armchairs, a piano for guests' entertainment, and a reading corner.
The dining and breakfast room is very spacious and well-appointed.
The breakfast is varied, with a wide selection of sweets (cookies, homemade cakes—very popular—), brioche, and savory options. Fruit juices, yogurt, jams, and fresh fruit are also available.
The hosts are courteous and discreet, yet always available for any information or request.
