Al Matarel In Milano

We came here today on a recommendation and were initially taken aback by the entrance, but after three minutes we felt very comfortable. When the food arrived – risotto with osmock buko – we were blown away. Highly recommended! 👏

Admittedly, the place is now popular with tourists (like us), and prices have gone up considerably. But it's an authentic and welcoming restaurant where you'll have a great time, enjoying, for example, the must-try Osso Buco and Risotto, as well as their homemade desserts. I hope to return.

We dined at Al Matarel and took away that rare feeling of being guests, not "customers." It's a historic Milanese trattoria, with an Old Milan atmosphere in the heart of Brera, walls that tell stories, an energy reminiscent of an artists' hangout, and long, healthy conversations. The cuisine is consistent, generous, and reflects the great Milanese tradition. Dishes are prepared as they should be, without gimmicks, with full yet balanced flavors. The menu features several classics and house specialties (tortelloni "Al Matarel," polenta, and other dishes from the Lombard school), and it's immediately clear that here, tradition isn't just a menu item but a way of being in the world. A special shout-out, however, goes to the service, and especially to Antonietta: friendly, attentive, and precise in her timing, capable of advising without being intrusive, and making you feel at ease with a grace that is rare these days. It's the kind of attention that elevates the experience by being with you, not serving you. Prices are in line with a historic restaurant in the city center and the quality of the ingredients. In short, you leave satisfied, with Milan still around you, like a good coat. We'll definitely return.

We went here for dinner with friends. The ossobuco was excellent (in my opinion, the best I've had in Milan) and the fresh pasta were excellent. A good selection of wines was sure to please everyone. The staff was very friendly and professional. The working jukebox available for guests was the icing on the cake! :)
