A very nice and normal restaurant without much fuss. Definitely don't let the less attractive facade put you off! The welcome was very friendly, as was the service throughout the evening. We had a delicious meal and drinks here for a very attractive and fair price. There is a limited menu (which is a good thing) and the waiter is happy to help with some suggestions. This is a restaurant where mainly Romans come to dine; you will find few tourists here (for now). Highly recommended for anyone who just wants to enjoy a good meal.

Rustic, homey atmosphere, friendly staff, and traditional Roman cuisine. I didn't like some of the things I didn't like: the tough puntarelle and the tripe with too much clove odor.

Such a great authentic Italian place! We had such a wonderful experience, the server was fabulous and spent time helping us plan a delightful meal. This place books out every night so be sure to make a reservation or come first thing when they open.

If you're looking for a place where time has stood still, head over to Alessandro. Looking for Roman cuisine? Want to learn about and discover how we ate in the post-war years? Well, this is the place. Thanks to Ale for leaving his dad's precious recipes intact. Oh... For those who don't know... Alessandro is the son of "Agustarello"!

History repeats itself. Alessandro is a master chef who has followed his father (the famous "Agustarello") from his earliest days. (I believe the trattoria and he were founded in the same year or a year apart.) Raised within these walls, he has managed to freeze time through his dishes, which are not just a taste experience, but also a true Roman experience, simple and patient. The offal, the pajata, the tripe, the tail, and all those parts of the animal that were once considered poor, like the period Rome went through at that time, and which only the skilled hands of the women of the time transformed into succulent dishes. When I talk about history, I mean this. Ale didn't touch anything, he left everything as it was. He didn't "toxicate" the dishes to make them modern and Instagrammable, as they say today. So, who is Agustarello for? For two types of people: those who want to remember and be moved, and those who want to truly experience Roman cuisine. Everyone else, go elsewhere. There are plenty of restaurants around here that cater to every taste! I'd like to take this opportunity to thank you on behalf of all Romans. We love you, Alessandro.

Superlative experience. One of the best meals we’ve had in Rome. Everything fresh, simple, homemade and real…small pristine dining room with warm service.

The best restaurant in the Testaccio neighborhood.
Excellent food, impeccable service, and a casual, welcoming atmosphere.
During our stay in Rome's Testaccio neighborhood, we tried several restaurants (including the most renowned ones), and Agustarello is undoubtedly the only one we'd happily return to. Highly recommended.

The front door swings inward and collides with a partition, making it difficult to get through. The emergency door also swings inward and is blocked by a table and four chairs! A fire would be disastrous!
