A' Taverna In Scalea

The place is charming, so it's best to book to avoid standing around. Moving on to the food, the house antipasto was delicious. We ordered spaghetti aglio olio with anchovies and bread. I expected much more, having already had it elsewhere. The gnocchi with fresh Calabrian sausage, which we were disappointed with, were also disappointing. Finally, we ordered a Calabrian salad whose star was supposed to be Tropea onion, an ingredient we'd seen through binoculars. It turned out to be a fairly standard tomato and basil salad. The real sore point is the service. The wait was incredibly long, over 30 minutes for the starters and the same for the salads. You order drinks, but after 10 minutes, it's better to ask. In short, a mixed experience that starts with a Wow! when you arrive and becomes Normal when you leave.

The negative reviews about this place are silly. In our experience, we waited a normal amount of time, ate delicious food, and felt very cared for and attended to by all the staff. The food is incredible and we even went back another night on our trip. The ambiance is wonderful and like stepping back in time. I really loved the farmer’s salad, the pasta with goat and tomato sauce, and the eggplant dish. The table wine is great and so is the panna cotta. Very traditional and authentic Italian dining experience.

The magic of old Scalea, away from the chaos and in a truly special atmosphere. All this while sampling excellent traditional dishes, an epic appetizer, and first and second courses of both quality and quantity. I will definitely be back.

Let's get to the point This Trattoria certainly wasn't discovered by me, but luckily fate had it that while planning a mini-vacation in Scalea and doing some research on places to dine, this place came to my attention. Attracted by the location and the photos of the dishes, I booked. I couldn't have made a better choice. Wonderful location, it feels like a fairytale. It feels like the discovery of a magical and mysterious place. My greatest blessing? This place is all roast. There's no smoke. It fills your eyes with beauty and your stomach with goodness. Traditional dishes are perfectly prepared. Each dish has its own soul and fulfills its purpose... satisfying those who choose it! Too bad my stomach isn't limitless. What I ate made me want more. I could spend hundreds more words, but try it first! The icing on the cake? The friendliness and warmth of the service staff. And believe me, that's not a given in Scalea. They always had a desire to please their guests and make them feel at home. If we ever return to Scalea, we'll book as many nights in a hotel as we do dinners at this trattoria. A truly quaint and romantic place, perfect for a special evening. I recommend booking, especially on weekends: we went on a Saturday, and even though we didn't have a reservation, they were very kind and managed to find us a table. The menu isn't very extensive, but it offers a few traditional and carefully crafted dishes, all very good. The only small complaint was the wait for the starters, which was a bit long, but it was worth it. Overall, a very pleasant experience, in a truly charming setting. I would gladly return!

Food: Good and quality. Prices: Fair and perfectly in line with the offerings. Service: Very attentive and attentive; the wait times are a bit long, but absolutely normal for this type of restaurant and for enjoying a relaxing evening. A dinner highly recommended for the beauty of the location and the deliciousness of the dishes. Reservations are highly recommended!

After many years, I returned to this tavern, where I was greeted with kindness and professionalism. The food is home-made, just as a good tavern should be.
