14/01/2026: “Beautiful location, great potential – but unfortunately our visit was disappointing.”
Trattoria La Rocca is set in a wonderfully idyllic location below Floresta and, thanks to its setting alone, has enormous potential. That is precisely why our experience that evening was so disappointing.
One thing that immediately felt unusual was that there were no menus visible anywhere, and we were not given any either. The waiter only described verbally what was “more or less” available. This meant that we had no possibility to see prices in advance and had to wait until the bill arrived. To be fair, the prices turned out to be in a normal, mid-range level, nothing excessive, but a menu should always be standard and transparent.
We decided to skip the starters after seeing them, as they consisted of very simple cold cuts and a few dried tomatoes, things you can find in any shop. There was no sense of care, creativity, or love for detail that one normally expects from a trattoria.
We then ordered two pasta dishes:
– Maccheroni ai Porcini: The pasta was still noticeably too hard, and the amount of porcini mushrooms was minimal (perhaps 6–8 small pieces in total). When you order “ai Porcini,” you expect a rich, aromatic mushroom sauce with a generous presence of mushrooms. Unfortunately, this was not the case.
– Pasta al Pistacchio: This was practically swimming in cream, with very little of the delicate pistachio flavor coming through. The sauce felt unbalanced and tasted far more of cream than of pistachio.
Finally, I ordered a Salsiccia al finocchietto with French fries. The sausage arrived alone, and the fries only followed almost 15 minutes later. In the meantime, the sausage naturally became cold. When I asked about the fries, a waitress reacted in a very unprofessional way, saying:
“What can I do if the fries aren’t ready yet?”
Such an answer should never be given in hospitality. The guest is not responsible for internal organization and expects a friendly, professional, and solution-oriented response. At that moment, we did not feel taken seriously.
The sausage itself was tasty, but the fries were not fully cooked.
Interesting – and almost ironic – was the fact that at the same time a representative was on site demonstrating a service robot, apparently for evaluation. As a mechanical engineer, I find it very hard to imagine how such a system could realistically work in a building with multiple levels, stairs, different dining rooms, and a heavily used outdoor area in summer. The robot looked more like a rolling serving trolley with several shelves. Before investing in such technology, the basic human service processes should first function reliably.
Overall, the food was edible, but in no way did it live up to the place and its great potential.
This criticism is not meant to be hurtful, but honest. In a trattoria, one expects simple, honest food prepared with care and a minimum level of professional service. Especially with such a limited and straightforward menu, this should be a given. The location is beautiful and the atmosphere unique – now all that is missing is that the kitchen and service truly live up to it.
29/11/2025: A charming restaurant with excellent cuisine and a well-stocked wine list. If you're in the area, a stop is a must. The staff is welcoming and friendly.

03/05/2025: Veramente con grande disappunto, perché un locale dovrebbe rispondere al primo squillo mi dispiace tanto anche perché ci sono stata in passata e mi ero trovata bene quindi a questo punto devo dire che il servizio è pessimo il fatto che non si possa prenotare senza rischiare che poi magari si arriva fin là e non si trova posto
