A good place for a Ligurian lunch in the historic center of Genoa. There's both indoor and outdoor seating. In the summer heat, there was virtually no temperature difference between the two options, so we opted for the outdoor seating. This restaurant has a very unusual ordering system: you order the food menu yourself at a separate window and then pick it up, while the waiter takes your drink and dessert orders and then brings them. Some items on both menus overlap, which naturally leads to errors when calculating the final bill. It seems like a clear overcomplication of the concept. The menu is extensive, with a wide selection of dishes and a wide variety of drinks. We had minestrone and potatoes with octopus. The minestrone wasn't like the kind you're used to in the rest of Italy. Here, it's more like porridge in consistency. But it was still delicious. The octopus was beyond praise. The establishment is good, the main thing is not to get confused by the ordering system.

The staff were very friendly, the local beer was delicious, and the pasta was also very tasty.

This is probably going to go down as one of my all time favorite Italian experiences. We grabbed a table and drinks at the bar next door who let you bring the food over. Small place churning out delicious basics for the locals. You'll probably want a bit of Italian language but you could get by pointing at a paper copy of the menu. They'll pass you sachets of utensils and a bread roll for each meal and put your food up on the counter when it's ready - you pay there and can either eat in or take it over to the bar to enjoy with a drink. Everything was hearty and delicious.

Delicious unpretentious food served with freshly baked bread on plastic plates. It was a pleasure eating here. You can get to take away or eat on their terrace.

Spectacular! Typical dishes to take away or eat in their restaurant, well-prepared food at a great price.

A lunch option that's not only cheaper but also tastier than the alleyways, Zimino is an institution. The menu is concise but worth trying. You'll have to jostle with the locals, but it's worth it. The tripe is the best I've ever eaten.
