The infrastructure looks quite old and possibly has not been modified from its original times. Therefore, to me it looks that Vecchio Forno proposal is, rather than joining the trend of the Neapolitan pizza, to offer the old-style pizza that they have been traditionally served. I rated 5,0 due to its braveness. I thank them for showing us a style of pizza and environment that we do not see it nowadays.
As for the pizza, it was good and specially good value for the money (8-10 eur). If you want a Neapolitan pizza this is not for you but if you want to appreciate an old style pizzeria from Calabria, this is the right place.

Abbiamo cenato in questa antica pizzeria io e mio marito!
Abbiamo preso la pizza antico forno e tonno con cipolle.
Le pizze sono cotte in una teglia tonda all'interno del forno a legna.
Impasto che assomiglia al pane e non alla pizza!
Nel complesso buona, esperienza da fare!

Tra i vicoli della città vecchia una delle miglior pizze mai mangiate, cotta in un vecchio forno che fungeva un tempo fa forno dove i tropeani portavano a cuocere le vivande. Pizze e pochi altri piatti, verdure al forno deliziose, tavoli nel vicolo ,ambiente simpatico. Prezzo onestissimo. Da provare!

It is always a pleasure, returning to Tropea, to have dinner at the Vecchio Forno. It has become a habit, an obligatory step, since I was a boy, practically for over 20 years.
The location is very characteristic, you dine in the side street that leads to the bakery, with the tables on the particular stone floor. It is a must, a guarantee that has always been guaranteed, to start dinner with the mixed starter, consisting of mushrooms, aubergines, dried tomatoes (all in oil), green olives, 'nduja and pecorino, accompanied by focaccias, practically pittas, baked at the moment. Afterwards you can't help but continue the dinner except with the pizzas (not large ones, otherwise, I say, you wouldn't be able to eat them together with the abundant starter). I usually take the one with homemade green olives and onion, adding some 'nduja. Very good. Recommended for those like me who love Calabrian flavors and spiciness, even if not too much (the 'nduja was not very "invasive").
I cannot fail to mention the courtesy of the staff, but above all of Mr. Aldo who is always ready to meet possible needs.
What can I say... See you next time!
