My friends who live in Piacenza took me for dinner to Vecchia Osteria Ancarano Sopra. What a dinner! We opted to have dinner outside. It looks like a Bavarian taverna (with the little wood chalet and tables with red and white check tablecloths) My friends wanted me to experience the specialty "Bortellina" with cured meats (coppa, salami, and prosciutto) and a generous slice of gorgonzola, with house wine. I love Bortellina (or Burtleina for those who translate from dialect) which is a simple and much-loved Piacenza recipe. Burtleina is a true symbol of Piacenza's gastronomic tradition, evoking childhood memories and moments of family conviviality. A recipe of very poor origins, it is particularly loved and widespread throughout the province. The undisputed queen of village festivals, this gastronomic specialty is somewhere between an omelet and a crispy crêpe, made essentially of water and flour. Bortellina is accompanied by a slice of coppa and pancetta or slathered with gorgonzola or soft cheese, it solves a dinner by itself. The Bortellina was so tasty and crispy and the cold cuts were really good. We drank the house wine "Ortrugo" which is a white grape variety growing mainly in Emilia, particularly in the province of Piacenza. Ortrugo wine has a light straw color tending to greenish and a dry or medium-dry flavor. It is usually produced in the sparkling or spumante types. The desserts were very good. I had a lemon sorbet/mousse which was so airy. The restaurant is a popular place for locals and it's best to book ahead. A very pleasant evening.
