Stepping inside Trattoria Pozzoni is like stepping into a time machine: you're catapulted into the warm atmosphere of old-fashioned village trattorias, where hospitality, simplicity, and authenticity are the keys to a special lunch.
The restaurant has remained stuck in the 1970s, and it's precisely this—along with the family management—that makes everything so authentic and respectful of tradition.
The menu is simple, spoken, but each dish proves that the secret to success often lies in simplicity.
We started with an incredible appetizer: exceptional cured meats, incredibly light homemade gnocco fritto, and their own pickled vegetables that literally won me over (and I'm usually not a fan!), so much so that I mopped up the sauce with bread.
One of the most beautiful features is the service: first and second courses arrive in pans and trays and are served directly at the table by the staff, a touch of old-fashioned conviviality that guarantees decidedly generous portions.
And speaking of the first courses, the linguine with ragù was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was a hit even for someone like me who's adopted from Bologna. But the real surprise was the mushroom and cranberry risotto: perfectly creamed, beautifully pronounced mushrooms, and a contrasting acidity that lingered at the end of every mouthful.
The second courses also matched everything else that came before. We opted for the mixed roasts, which included incredibly tender rabbit (finally not dry!), fork-tender pork ribs, and a beautifully browned guinea fowl stuffed with minced meat and walnuts, all accompanied by a first-class mash.
And then the chef comes out with a trolley full of cakes, all strictly homemade. And how could you say no? Obviously, trying them all was impossible, but three samples were a must.
All three were incredible, but the winner was the carrot cake, which I'd easily rank first for this type of dessert.
Lunch was accompanied by a lovely, drinkable sparkling red wine, also produced on site, included in the cover charge.
Thanks also to the friendly, smiling staff, who welcome you and make you feel right at home, Trattoria Pozzoni deserves a special place among my personal favorites in the Lodi area.
The price, in my opinion, was excellent; we didn't miss a thing and spent about €48 each.
Thanks to all the staff at Pozzoni for the wonderful gastronomic experience!
