15/04/2024: It may seem strange, but rather than inviting, I was invited to dine at this restaurant a few nights ago, to celebrate my 50th birthday.
I had always heard about it, for better (for the place and the food) and for worse (for the presumed lack of courtesy of the owners) but I had never had the opportunity to try it.
The impression, at the entrance, was that of a place of supreme elegance, but from another era: dim light, crochet curtains, furnishings everywhere with a slightly retro taste, chairs covered with fabric that touches the ground and carpets everywhere.
A lady who is no longer young, elegantly dressed in black and with a slightly intimidating look, accompanies us to the table and seats us kindly, but without too many words (which absolutely does not mean being rude).
After a few minutes the wine list arrives and, to my surprise, I see that it is limited to Dolcetto, Barbera, Nebbiolo and Barolo which they produce in their La Morra cellar; all offered at more than affordable prices. I choose a bottle of Barbera which is pleasant on the palate and easy to drink.
Following, the menu which includes traditional dishes expressed for what they are without the use of high-sounding names; there are 4/5 starters, 2 first courses and 4/5 second courses, no dessert and for dessert strawberries with sugar and lemon.
There are four of us and we choose an appetizer, a first course and a second course each as well as dessert.
Let's order:
- 1 raw minced meat and 3 veal with tuna sauce
- 2 ravioli with butter and 2 tagliatelle with asparagus
- 2 liver with onions and 2 sliced veal (with asparagus, as a side dish)
All the dishes are essential, not presented in a scenographic way, but with an authentic flavor that is reminiscent in every way of "grandmother's cooking".
My expectations were not disappointed and what I found reflects quite faithfully what I had always heard.
The price, online: €/each. 40.00 all inclusive.
21/03/2024: Historic and central place... Soft light with lit candles that give a sense of tranquility... rooms meticulously decorated with particular objects, curtains and embroidered and impressive tablecloths... Dinner served quickly and excellent traditional dishes... Good wine... Very kind owners, worth trying!
