Tested in hotel and restaurant: for both: good value for money (small but modern room, clean and well equipped) with a special mention for the cuisine: traditional Piedmontese cuisine deliciously prepared from starter to dessert. Thanks to the owner. This establishment was a very pleasant surprise! Note: the owners are bilingual French.

We returned to this restaurant, as we do every year, and the experience was, as always, positive. The food was excellent, the service was fast, and the prices were absolutely competitive. Thank you for the experience you gave us. We will definitely be back.

We went to this trattoria for lunch on August 15th. Everything on the menu was delicious; we especially enjoyed the gnocchi with Castelmagno cheese and the rice with radicchio and speck. It's a lovely place: they have both indoor and outdoor seating. We had a great time, we'll definitely be back, and I highly recommend this place.

A Piedmontese trattoria with very good dishes and generous portions. Their menu includes four appetizers for everyone, a first course from four different options, and a second course from four different options. Service is fast, and the staff is friendly and helpful. I don't know the prices because I was invited, but looking on the website, they seem fair. Be careful at the entrance; if you go too fast, you won't see it and have to turn back, which isn't always easy on mountain roads. I didn't give the rooms any stars because I didn't see them.

At the entrance to the valley, this is the perfect place for a period dedicated to trekking. Comfortable, welcoming, and simple. Open the door and you'll find a network of perfectly maintained and well-marked hiking trails at your fingertips. A 40-minute drive takes you to the Fauniera Pass at 2,600 meters above sea level. Ask the lodge for advice on which trails to choose; everyone knows them! Well-prepared local cuisine.

16/11/2025: We dined here in November 2025 and were greeted with great warmth. The menu offered a beautiful selection of dishes, which were described to us by the owner and chef. Her husband expertly assisted us with the wine selection, thanks to a truly excellent wine list. For appetizers, we enjoyed raw meat and poached egg with fondue, both accompanied by extraordinary truffles sourced directly from the region. For first courses, we chose pasta with ragù and pumpkin gnocchi. The portions were very generous. For the fourth course, we were served liver in Moscato. The owner places great importance on regionality and the quality of the products. The truffle was by far the best we tasted in Alba in 2025. The cuisine was excellent, and the service was very friendly and personal; we found the restaurant extremely welcoming. We highly recommend "Il Brutto Anatroccolo" and can't wait to return! We visited in November 2025 and were warmly welcomed. There was a lovely selection of dishes, which was explained to us by the owner and chef. Her husband guided us competently through the impressive wine list and helped us choose the perfect wines. For starters, we had raw meat and poached egg with fondue, both served with outstanding truffles sourced directly from the region. As first courses, we enjoyed pasta with ragù and pumpkin gnocchi. The portions are very generous. As our fourth course, we were served liver in Moscato. The owner puts great emphasis on regionality and the quality of the ingredients. The truffle was by doing the best we had in Alba in 2025. The food was excellent, and the service was incredibly warm and personal. We also found the restaurant very cozy and inviting. We can wholeheartedly recommend “The Ugly Duckling” and are already looking forward to our next visit

31/03/2026: The 3 stars are due to the fact that we booked through Smartbox, which indicated that two menus with appetizers, a first course, and a second course were included, and when we received the bill, we were charged a difference of 55 euros (the extras were supposedly for four glasses of wine and dessert). It would have been correct to know this when booking. Good food, however.
28/03/2026: Although the lunch was very good, I have to give it only 3 stars because we booked through a smartbox that indicated two menus with appetizers, a first course, and a second course were included. However, when we received the bill, we were asked for a €55 difference (we had four glasses of wine as an extra, so it seemed excessive). We would have liked to have been informed when we booked. Otherwise, we ate well, but I didn't appreciate the lack of transparency.
