We chose Ai Frati for a family lunch during the Christmas holidays, with several generations at the table, and it turned out to be a perfect choice. Traditional dishes prepared with great care, with distinctive yet clean flavors and the freshest ingredients. It was one of those long, relaxed lunches where you eat well and feel even better. A restaurant that manages to be elegant without losing the warmth of a home-cooked meal.

Dishes are perfectly balanced, crafted from a meticulously crafted selection of fresh, original ingredients, and presented with impeccable plating. The quiche is superb, the first courses (tagliolini with mountain butter and white truffle and spaghetti with garlic, oil, chili pepper, and caviar) are exquisite, the beef fillet is cooked to perfection, and the dessert (mascarpone cream flavored with rum and caramelized mandarin) is delicate and balanced. The wine list is extensive, expertly guided by the sommelier. The atmosphere is minimalist yet very warm and welcoming. One of the best culinary experiences not only in Udine but (at least for us) in all of Italy.

I write this review with some regret, because I was there that evening and reading such harsh and unrealistic comments has sincerely outraged me.
I experienced a wonderful evening, with sublime dishes, full of flavor and personality, served with care and passion. But above all, I saw a vibrant dining room: smiling people, satisfied tables, guests thanking the staff at the end of the meal. An atmosphere of gratitude, not disappointment.
It's legitimate to dislike a dish, but speaking on behalf of all the other guests—who were visibly happy that evening—is profoundly unfair. Even more so if you do so by turning a personal experience into a general condemnation.
I left feeling like I'd experienced something special, and I'll return without hesitation.
Because, that evening, the guests' happiness wasn't an opinion: it was evident.

An elegant and well-kept historic restaurant in the heart of Udine. The food is delicious, high-quality, and the service is very attentive. I highly recommend the frico, San Daniele prosciutto, and the radicchio and sausage crepes. Perfect for lunch, too!

Incredible experience at Trattoria ai Frati. Starting from superbly though-out menu to mouth watering dishes created and realized by chef Giuseppe Beccarello, the whole dinners (I went two nights in a row) were nothing less than sensational. Kudos to all, and to the very competent and courteous staff, from Maitre Massimo to Mattia and Sofia, for regaling us with an extraordinary experience. Can’t wait to be back. Thank you!

A fantastic restaurant. We sat by the open fireplace – wonderful! Great wine selection; we were offered a wine for €550, which was really too expensive for us. The limited edition wine for €59 was exactly to our liking. The food was superb! Order the spaghetti with caviar!!! The service dropped off considerably after the pasta; we were then asked about dessert, and the crème brûlée, which I was looking forward to, was sold out 20 minutes after we ordered it. What a shame. All in all: highly recommended!

A very positive experience. A historic, well-kept, welcoming venue, with kind, professional, attentive, and warm staff.
You can sense their love for cooking.
We had delicious turnip dumplings with wild boar ragù; delicious salmon Wellington; and a tasty potato and polenta frico.
We thank Massimo for his courtesy and helpfulness.
Highly recommended.

The restaurant has been beautifully renovated, retaining some of the rustic elements of the original building. It's a real shame that the fireplace was removed; integrating it into the modern setting would have been a plus, in my opinion. The staff is very knowledgeable, and my sincere compliments go to the waitress (young, with black hair tied back) and the waiter (with a Spanish accent) who served us: smiling, courteous, and above all, never intrusive! Some dishes are a bit pricey considering the simplicity of the ingredients, but overall the offerings are excellent. The menu lacks a house wine for the "non-experts." The bread with peppers was fantastic!
