Stone In Matera

The food and the selection was amazing!!! The quality of the food and the speed of preparation was very high - Thankyou. However, The staff were very ‘cold’, unfriendly and not welcoming. This was a shame. They never smiled or made us feel welcome. Maybe it’s because you order your food via an iPad……it is very efficient, but the staff need customer service skills training/advice. Anyway - the food was excellent.

Three stars are too much but the place is suggestive from the point of view of the location as it is located inside a cave in the historic center of Matera, but as regards the reference to Japanese culture absolutely nothing, in fact it seems like a simple trattoria with chairs and plastic tables... Pretty good food but not with much variety on the menu but overall not bad. The sore point, unfortunately, is the service which, despite being quick in preparation, when you reach a certain quantity of orders (we saw that they checked on the tablet)... the waiter comes and asks you if you have finished eating and takes away your dishes even though the kitchen is still open. You basically feel like they're kicking you out. For prices two all you can eat with a bottle of wine €77.70. Honestly we will never go back again.

We went for the all you can eat lunch which was about 19 euro per person. Dinner is more expensive at around 26 euro pp. This includes everything except desserts and drinks. You can even order sashimi! The quality of the food was good, but the tuna tasted a bit off so we avoided that. Overall, good value for money!

We went there today driven by the desire to eat sushi in Matera which has never disappointed us in terms of the level of catering in general. And in fact it didn't disappoint us this time either, the location is truly unique, differentiating itself from the other all you can eats and blending perfectly with the landscape of Matera and the famous stones. But the real exceptional thing is the food itself, without thinking twice I currently consider it the best sushi I have tried in Italy, a quality that is very close to Japanese standards (especially the exceptional tuna). All excellent and in the typical price range with an extra edge (23 each for lunch despite it being a public holiday). We will certainly return often, I'll gladly drive an hour from Bari to try it again.

Original and delicious (sushi) starters! Very good sushi. We had a very nice meal tonight. Delicious sashimi, with the raw shrimp as the highlight!
