Rosticceria della Gioia In Modena

It's now an institution on that street, and I've known the owner for many, many years. I was pleased to see its popularity grow over the years. The other night we went at 7:30 pm, but people kept coming, and they kept adding tables. The location in the summer is under the portico, and I must say it was nice inside. It's small, but there's also a small dining room. His son served us at the table, kindly and professionally. I must say that the chickpea hummus was truly excellent, the falafel was also excellent, the plum tajine with beef melted in your mouth—it's my favorite—and the eggplant. And what about the tea? It was delicious, and better than what I was served at another restaurant, not in Modena, but similar. They also do takeout, and the display case is really well stocked and full of delicious things. The owner is always very kind. The quality/price ratio is acceptable.

We had dinner here on Saturday 10th May. What can I say? Very nice place with excellent cuisine... We were greeted by their sauces and their appetizers (fried cabbage and falafel, both excellent), then at the counter there was a wide choice of dishes. We opted for the beef with plums and couscous. We will definitely be back to try other dishes. Attentive and very kind staff. To spend an evening surrounded by Middle Eastern suggestions, scents and flavours.

Conosco questo piccolo angolo di cucina nordafricana da tanti anni. Ci torno sempre volentieri, il calore e la gentilezza di persone stupende. Ancora presente il capofamiglia, persona fantastica con il figlio in sala ad aiutarlo. Tutto sempre molto, molto buono, prezzi bassi e qualità alta. Meglio di così?

A nice rotisserie where you can try many different Egyptian dishes and where the owner's kindness cannot go unnoticed. I went here for the first time on a Saturday evening. It was almost 10pm so there weren't many customers (some tables were empty). My 2 friends and I were accompanied to the back room and were immediately served with appetizers. Hummus, olives, falafel, warm bread. The problem was the "after". We were left with nothing for 30 minutes. No one came by to ask us what we wanted... then, finally, once they had taken them into consideration, they waited another good 20 minutes to heat up our dishes. I remember that the dishes are already ready and therefore do not require particular effort. Once the first course was finished, history repeated itself. These expectations are probably related to cultural aspects, but we Italians are not used to waiting so long and I consider this a negative side. Everything was accompanied with smiles, but smiles are often not enough. The first courses are pleasant, but not excellent. Meat and vegetable dishes are very seasoned (perhaps too much) and can be very heavy. Despite this, they are good. The best dish: aubergines with tomatoes, capers and olives. With 3 starters, 2 first courses, 2 second courses, 2 aubergines and 2 teas we spent 27 euros each.
