07/03/2025: Very nice and welcoming place, dishes that are not too elaborate and made of excellent raw materials. The wines they produce are good. Prices consistent with the excellent cuisine offered.
27/02/2025: Still Piedmont or already the land of milk and honey? The Monferrato wine region is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The mountain village of Montemarzino with just over 300 inhabitants is the ideal viewing platform from which to view this natural, hilly landscape. What's even nicer is that the family-run restaurant Da Guiseppe has existed in this location next to the church and town hall since 1963. The inconspicuous restaurant recommended by Slow Food Italia has a terrace on the opposite side of the church square, which is regularly booked out many days in advance on weekends. We were lucky and were able to reserve a table on the beautiful terrace on a sunny day in July. There is only limited parking available on the small, steep street up to the church square, where Da Guiseppe is also located - parking on the street further down is no problem. We were there relatively early and were able to thoroughly enjoy the sensational view. This Piedmontese restaurant also features local, freshly prepared products of the best quality on the menu - simple, honest and pure enjoyment. The familiar service is very friendly and a young waiter surprised us with his perfect knowledge of German - as a child he had often visited his grandparents who lived in Germany. Dinner on the terrace was accompanied by a picture-perfect sunset. We ordered stuffed baked zucchini flowers and Tajarin egg noodles with fresh porcini mushrooms as a first course - a strong experience for the taste buds. The ambience on the terrace appeals to all other senses - a dream place. While my wife then ordered fresh, baked porcini mushrooms, I chose three small, short-fried meatballs made from Fassone beef tartare that were juicy and aromatic. They had different toppings: porcini mushrooms, Tropea red wine onions and local Castelmagno cheese gave the meatballs extra flavor. A fresh local wine tasted good with it. After the sunset, we ended the meal with a fruity, fresh dessert specialty from this region: peach brawn. The fruits in wine jelly are served well chilled with cream and a fruit sauce. Unfortunately, there were more and more mosquitoes that wanted to spoil our wonderful evening a little. The local guests were better prepared and used Autan etc. generously. This could not dampen the joy of the magical evening and the lasting images. The price for two including water and wine: Moderate 100 euros. Another experience of our culinary Piedmont-Pure trip.
