Ristorante Universo In Vignale monferrato

A culinary experience from a bygone Italy. We visited this restaurant with a vintage atmosphere for a Sunday lunch. The set menu is generous and very reasonably priced. Some dishes, like the agnolotti, were exceptional. Recommended if you want to try authentic Monferrato cuisine. My only complaint is that I would have liked a smaller wine list.

Excellent restaurant. When they have truffles, it's a must.

Don't trust anyone who gives 1 star, I assure you the food is very good!

This place used to be in the Osterie d’Italia guide until 2024. I perfectly understand why it was removed from the 2025 edition. Food is ok, but service was very deficient. No explanation about what to eat, they just assumed we wanted the full menu and started bringing food. It took us almost three hours to have dinner, there was a very long interval between dishes. They did not offer any drinks or wine. Place was almost empty, except for an extremely noisy group of foreigners. The fact that no Italian was eating in the place on Thursday night should have been a dead giveaway, but we thought it was because we were there at 8. Will never come here again. One good point: an unforgettable eggplant carpaccio.

The torronata and tartare were fantastic, the other things were neither good nor bad. The wine seemed too expensive for the quality I drank.

A splendid day, lunch served outdoors in the garden overlooking the Monferrato. Excellent appetizers, very good first courses, gourmet second courses, desserts that pamper you even with the delicious nougat! The chef is excellent, the service is excellent and the good choice of wines completes the celebration
