Ristorante Pizzeria Da Marcello In Pontinia

AMBIENCE: Today I had lunch at the "da Marcello" restaurant in Pontinia. The restaurant is very well-maintained and spacious, both inside and out. The staff was friendly, professional, and helpful. EXPERIENCE: The house mixed antipasto consists of several courses, including: tomato and basil bruschetta, mixed cold cuts, fried meats, olives, vegetables, eggplant parmigiana, polenta, and mozzarella balls. Everything was fresh and delicious. For starters, I had a sample of strozzapreti with speck and radicchio, which were truly delicious, and a sample of gnocchi with ragù, which were equally delicious. For dessert, I had vanilla ice cream with apples and cinnamon, which was a delightful and surprising end to my meal.

The staff were excellent, but the pizza didn't convince me! I'm giving it an overall 3 stars, averaging the ambiance and the food. I'll start with the positives: the location is truly charming and well-kept, and I'd like to highlight the kindness of the staff, who were very courteous and helpful throughout the evening. Unfortunately, however, the pizza experience was mediocre. Speaking as a Neapolitan, I found the dough decidedly too crispy, far from the soft style I prefer. Specifically, I didn't like the marinara: the sauce was a bit overcooked (losing its necessary freshness), the garlic was in whole cloves, and the anchovies were raw. It's a shame, because the atmosphere and service deserved a much higher rating, but the pizza could be improved. All in all, we'll be back for an update.
