Ristorante Leiter am Waal In Lagundo

Since we discovered the restaurant on the Algund Waalweg path a few years ago, we've been visiting it every time we vacation in the Merano area. This time we "had to" eat in the dining room because it's already too cold on the terrace in October evenings. It's also very cozy inside, but understandably even cozier outside. The food is very good, and the desserts are always a highlight for us. Very friendly staff. We're looking forward to next year!

You don't need a ladder to get in, and octopus is the only sea creature you'll find at Leiter am Waal. With the name in mind and a bit confused, you stand above the vineyards in Algund, faced with a difficult decision. If you prefer a more cozy atmosphere, you can snuggle up behind the corner bench in the parlor or use the rustic wooden chairs, whose backrests also form the restaurant's logo. Those who prefer more formality in the style of Falstaff and Gault Millau can sit in the new extension, and if you don't like each other, you can certainly sit separately. During summer fashion, you'll probably prefer sitting on the terrace. With this in mind, the staff will fulfill almost any wish. In the old and new buildings, two worlds collide not only architecturally, but also culinary. The house's credo is to add a bit of modern zest to old, dusty South Tyrolean classics. Alongside tartare, the fried potatoes, which are part of several main courses, are more than just eye-catchers. Finely carved, they are served spread out on a whole plate like carpaccio.

I'd come back, if only for the dessert. We were able to sit outside. It was a delight for all the senses.

What could be nicer than lunch at the Leiter am Waal restaurant after a short hike from Tirol Castle? Nothing. Once again, we received a warm welcome and were seated without a reservation on a beautiful Wednesday afternoon. Despite the busyness, we were served quietly and professionally, and, as always, the food was very good. The portions were too generous for our age. We'll definitely be back.

Very tasty and beautifully decorated, located on the Algund Waalweg (Waalweg) waterway, but unfortunately, after the renovation, the price range and category have changed.
