Ristorante L'Arcata In

L'Arcata dei Mazzeni: a dream location and excellent cuisine, but the pantry management needs some work. We stopped at the L'Arcata dei Mazzeni Cocktail Bar and Restaurant, drawn by its charming waterfront location, nestled beneath the iconic arches of the Gatte marina in Santa Maria di Castellabate. The welcome was top-notch: the owners are very courteous, and the grandmother is truly charming, a touch of warmth that's always welcome. Being primarily a seafood restaurant, however, this is a bit of a disappointment. The sore point of the evening was the almost complete lack of seafood: there were no clams, only one portion of mussels was left, and the seafood appetizers were already sold out. Having to make do, we ordered a Cilento appetizer with traditional cured meats and cheeses, which turned out to be truly excellent. For the first courses, we had to settle for a scialatiello with mussels and a "scoglio" (or rather, "half-rocky"—the only seafood served was shrimp and mussels). We also tried the cod with olives and cherry tomatoes, which was truly delicious. It must be said that the dishes available were well-cooked, and the fresh pasta was a real treat. It's true that our visit was on a Monday evening (June 3rd), but if a seafood menu lacks key ingredients, perhaps it would be more appropriate to turn down the shutters for a day. This place has enormous potential; the food is worthy, and the setting is magical, but the pantry management definitely needs improvement.

Excellent atmosphere, with low music that lets you hear the sound of the waves. The waiters are kind and very professional. The location isn't as beautiful as the photos, but overall it's very nice.

...we sat in a corner of paradise...welcomed by the kindness and friendliness of Mrs. Nunzia and her son, who shared a bit of their history with us during an impeccable dinner. Recommended
