Ristorante La Marianna In Bergamo

The history of stracciatella dates back to the 18th century in Bergamo’s Citta Alta with a place called Bettolina After World War I, it was replaced by a café named “La Marianna” where the owner first pioneered stracciatella ice cream. So thats what we went to try - good flavour and texture. It's busy given its popularity but we found some seating.

Chose this place in the Old Town of Bergamo at the base of the funicular towards the castle. Couldn't have asked for anywhere better - the Italian pastries and cakes are mouthwatering and delicious. Chose the polenta cake - filled with a soft sweet sponge - and the three layered chocolate mousse cake, which explains itself. Both were excellent and not expensive. Also had a tasty smoked ham brioche and coffee. Altogether an excellent lunch at an affordable price. Well worth a visit.
