For the first time after the change of management from the Martini family to the Antoniazzi family, I had the opportunity to have lunch at Il Cigno.
Let me start by saying that I know the work done to give a new identity to the place and I recognize how difficult it is to maintain the balance between the tradition of the previous management and the new direction. Even more so in a city like Mantua, where the culture of fine dining is still unknown.
The location, as well as the service and the menu, are going through a moment of transition, with a reinterpretation in a more modern and current key.
From a gastronomic point of view, I ate very well. The spaghetti, in particular, won me over with the right balance between the freshness of the lime and the creaminess of the oyster mayonnaise, while the tempura added a pleasant crunchiness. The lamb tartare is also very good, perhaps a little too delicate. I was surprised by the optional proposal of pumpkin tortelli, served with Tastasal and a tomato puree separately, in perfect compliance with the traditions of the entire province.
I will definitely return to try other dishes created by chef Zanardi.
In conclusion, the price is high, but it is understandable for an experience of this type. The context, the service and the research must be recognized and valorised; otherwise, the sustainability of the entire project would suffer.
If you are not willing to understand this logic, perhaps it is better to avoid it.

I confess that I ended up at the swan by mistake ☺️. I was looking for a typical and simple place for a frugal dinner before going to sleep in the hotel. I had chosen it by reading the menu found on Google, which however belonged to the previous management from a few months earlier. We found a sophisticated and high-level restaurant. Almost twice as expensive as our plans, but ultimately a very pleasant surprise. I would say velvety, almost fairy-tale atmosphere. Few people in each room, large table and meticulous details. The cutlery with elegant and classic shapes, the ceramics perfect for holding different dishes, the graceful glasses, the cutlery holder in smooth walnut, the painted Victorian sugar bowls, the cheese bowl with decorated lid and handles, the biscuit stand in worked glass and faded silver, the long thick cotton tablecloth, the napkin with the hemstitch, I also loved the cup and the thin teaspoon. The impression was that everything was the result of a choice guided by a concern for pleasure, nothing over the top or out of place, nothing venal or calculated to capture the wealthy and sophisticated customer. Just the pleasure of creating a lovely environment. Delicious dishes prepared with creative care. Initially I felt a mixed feeling between embarrassment and ridicule for the situation I had put myself in, I had chosen the place despite my son wanting the usual hamburger and my husband the beer bar. The very sweet and elegant service took away my sense of awkwardness and transformed a mistake into an unexpected pleasure. If I may allow myself a small note, it is the paintings, which I often observe in a somewhat obsessive way. There were several works of great value, but not suited in taste to the venue and the city of Mantegna. In summary I would say a pleasant surprise.

Ci ero stato anni fa, ci sono tornato i primi di gennaio con la famiglia e devo dire che ho avuto conferma dell’ottimo ricordo
Prodotti di qualità, ben cucinati, molto buono anche il servizio e i tempi di attesa
Sommelier professionale, preparata e attenta
Anche il cameriere che ci ha servito è stato molto bravo.
Il prezzo è in linea con il livello del ristorante.

I spent the evening of December 31st in this charming, impeccably managed restaurant. I was struck by the care and professionalism of a young and modern staff, who know how to remain faithful to the culinary traditions of Mantua. The dinner, which took place in two parts, was excellent. The buffet served in the fireplace room, where it is possible to admire paintings by the Mantuan artist Alceo Poltronieri, was a dream start. I loved the miniburgers with foie gras escalope and sautéed spinach, but also the tempura oyster with lime wasabi, as well as the red prawns with passion fruit and the artisanal focaccia. At the table, two first courses, a second course, a pre-dessert and a dessert were then served. A formidable gastronomic journey that began with a freshly baked loaf capable of exciting and warming the heart. The rav'ioli with oil foam, slightly pinching the palate, enticed the diners to continue with the flavor of the risotto with tomato and parmesan puree from the white cows, to gradually arrive at sweeter flavors given by the turbot, the toasted almond, fennel cream. We could go on for a long time and this review is certainly reductive, but there is little space to share everything. However, I finally wanted to underline that the service was truly capable of anticipating the guests' wishes and this is not easy. Many compliments!

We were last night for the first time in this splendid and comfortable place. We were welcomed with extreme kindness and friendliness by the dining room staff who immediately proved to be attentive and helpful. This first approach created a pleasant and relaxed atmosphere, ideal for enjoying the experience that the restaurant had to offer. Once seated at the table, we were immediately pampered with a delicious entrée accompanied by warm homemade bread and butter. This small gesture not only demonstrated attention to detail but also represented a perfect start to a very pleasant evening. The dishes, from the appetizer to the dessert, proved to be excellent, an expression of refined and attentive cuisine both in terms of flavor and presentation. At the end of the evening, the manager Pietro and the Chef Matteo Zanardi, with great professionalism, wanted to know personally how we had found the experience, demonstrating genuine interest and attention for their guests. This gesture further enhanced an already impeccable evening. We will be back!
