A traditional place, not too touristy (finally), with authentic food and friendly staff. I had the artichoke and amatriciana, delicious! The dessert was also very good... I recommend it to those looking for true Roman tradition and those who don't like touristy, Instagrammable places. 😉

The taste of yesteryear. Authentic traditional Roman cuisine. I returned to this restaurant after many years. It remains the same as it once was: the flavor, the quality, the courtesy and helpfulness of the staff. It feels like home, far from the usual tourist traps, despite being strategically located for history and tourist traffic. The quality/price ratio is also exceptional.

Hosteria Cannavota overlooks Piazza San Giovanni in Laterano. A large sign on the outside indicates its location, making it easy to find. The interior is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is reminiscent of a historic establishment, as evidenced by the various photos on the walls featuring celebrities of varying degrees of illustriousness. I arrived at this restaurant with very high expectations, considering it had excellent reviews. I can't say I had a bad meal, but I was expecting a little more in terms of taste and flavor. There were two of us and we chose the fish menu, with a seafood salad featuring lovely, crunchy vegetables, but it was a bit too oily for my taste. For our second course, my wife had prawns Cannavota-style and I had mixed grill. The prawns were good. As for the grill, the prawns were cooked just right, but the fish (I assume sea bream) was a bit overcooked, making it too dry. The desserts were delicious, including chocolate cake for both of us and a taste of tiramisu, which they kindly offered, and for which I thank them. My only comment is about the liqueur used to dip them in, which, in my humble opinion, was too strong, making them a bit heavy. The wine that paired well with the meal was a crisp house wine, suitable for a fish-based dinner. The staff who served us was kind and punctual, but if I may, I'd advise the waiter not to touch the bread with his hands, as some more picky and fastidious customers than I might criticize you. The price paid for a fish-based dinner was €48, which I personally consider a more than fair price. Overall, it was a positive experience, and my comments weren't criticisms, but simple and normal observations that can help, and I think the customer's opinion is important.

This time we were disappointed. We've known the osteria for years and always stop by whenever we're in Rome. The 1960s atmosphere remains, the family atmosphere remains, but it seems to have started a bit of a downward spiral: the dishes were brought out of order (especially the first courses), resulting in us eating at different times. The house antipasto (cured meats and cheese) was like hospital fare: very thinly sliced machine-made salami, and cheese that was not at all mature and had a vague flavor. On a positive note: the waiter was attentive and kind.

We tried rigatoni and carbonara, it was very delicious. Very cozy little place. However, we had to wait an awfully long time for our order to be brought out.

Roman inn, serving traditional, tasty cuisine. The owners are welcoming, no-frills, but genuine. Very reasonable prices. We'll be back.

Truly exceptional. A place with a retro atmosphere that takes us back to when our mother used to prepare the dishes... Typical Roman dishes, fantastic. Tradition is respected. Truly reasonable prices.

A truly special place. A typical family-run inn where food and conviviality reign supreme. The quality of the food is top-notch; their first courses are (and I can honestly say this) the best I've had in Rome...
