The refuge is easily found at the end of the road that leads to Monte Alvaro. Terrace on the mountain, to enjoy food and drinks. The restaurant inside well served by smiling diners who leave respectable dishes. Casoncelli, cold cuts board (excellent), mushrooms ribs and polenta taragna and normal. Excellent lunch, to return.

We took part in the Ciaspolando con Gusto initiative at the end of January. There was snow, not much but it's better to use snowshoes. Really well organised! There were a lot of people (about 1000 people participated in my opinion) but the departure times were staggered, so it wasn't annoying (except for the queue to go to the bathroom). It's a circular tour with stages where at each stage you can taste something: you start with an aperitif with bread with honey, yogurt with chestnut and pollen, local jams, focaccia with tasty sauces, hamburger sandwich, polenta with stew, dessert, etc... We started at 12 and finished calmly at 17. Wonderful day. The cost is €35 with €5 more for the snowshoes. The route is not particularly tiring (Monte Avaro is a panettone) and everyone can do it at their own pace. If you are celiac, if you let us know when booking, they will prepare suitable special dishes for you. I recommend bringing mountain poles to use with snowshoes. Since there are a lot of people, you park along the road, many hairpin bends before arriving at the Il Ciar refuge... but there is a free shuttle that continues to pass. In addition to this initiative, the cross-country ski trails are very beautiful and it is also nice to use the bobsleigh that can be rented directly on site.

Excellent food well prepared, wife plate of cold cuts and cheese with pickles, I polenta and mountain cheese on the grill followed by strudel elderberry and blackberry tart. Excellent beer mashed potatoes coffees

As you can see from the stars, I would highly recommend the Rifugio del Monte Avaro for your lunch with friends (I don't rate the rooms as we didn't use them). Let me start by saying that they welcomed us at the last minute due to the cancellation of another refuge due to bad weather, even if we are talking about Easter lunch. Despite this, the service was very fast, the food excellent (and what can I say, vegetarian versions also available!). The bill was even more of a surprise! Honest is an understatement. But what I would like to underline is the welcome! Everyone with a smile, extremely friendly, I felt at home in an instant! Thanks to all the staff!

4 of us looked for a place on a winter Sunday without having booked, but, obviously, given the high turnout that always characterizes this refuge of which many are fond, there were no free tables. However, we rightly adapted to an arrangement on the outside tables, which are not used in winter. The dishes were very good, even if the staff used ways that were not always kind to deal with customers, and we had to wait inside for plates and cutlery to be delivered to us to serve ourselves independently: so far, no problem, if you don't consider that they made us pay for four covers. Among other things, the refuge is certainly not difficult to reach even for the supply of various materials, because it overlooks a road that is almost always clean and passable, which is why I would have expected lower prices.

I have known the place for some time but for the first time I stopped to eat at the restaurant of the Monte Avaro refuge. I had a wonderful lunch, large portions of excellent quality food. I had a starter for 2 and pasta with ragu. fully satisfied. I praise the staff who, even with a lot of people, offer good service suitable for families and children. I recommend trying the bombardino! Exceptional!

Beautiful morning spent surrounded by snow-capped mountains, had lunch in this warm refuge where we tasted delicious typical dishes, friendly and kind staff, well done!!!
