Rhinoceros Entr'acte In Roma

We visited Rhinoceros Le Restau & Terraces while in Rome and made the walk from the Colosseum ~ be warned, it’s quite a trek and a bit tricky to find, as the entrance is somewhat tucked away and up the street. The building and elevator gave off a slightly unfinished vibe, which left us wondering if that was intentional. The bathroom was also very small and felt out of place considering the upscale pricing. A note of caution: canceling the same day of your reservation will result in an €80 penalty, so plan ahead! Upon arrival, we were first given menus without prices ~ which felt odd and uncomfortable. We had to request new ones just to know what we were actually ordering. That said, there were some lovely surprises. The complimentary chickpeas with crispy barley and a selection of fresh bread and olive oil were a nice touch from the chef. Our mains, lasagna and pasta with tuna, were good (though portion sizes were modest). My pasta was a bit too salty for my liking. The standout of the night was the prosecco ~ absolutely the best I’ve ever had! I wish I had asked about the winemaker. My mom’s dessert, a chocolate cake with cream and fresh berries, was delightful. Service-wise, it felt lacking. I understand European dining norms don’t include frequent check-ins, but for a place associated with Michelin-starred Aroma, I expected a bit more attention. After walking for an hour to get there, we waited quite a while for water and food, and once our meals arrived, no one came by to check in. One major downside: the terrace, while beautiful, allowed guests to smoke right next to us. As someone sensitive to cigarette smoke, this was really off-putting and affected the overall enjoyment. All in all, this is a stylish and picturesque restaurant with some solid dishes, a fantastic glass of prosecco, and great views ~ but a few service and atmosphere quirks hold it back from being truly exceptional. A solid 3.5 to 4-star experience.

My experience at Rhinoceros was partly positive, but with some reservations. At the restaurant, the service was good: friendly and professional staff, nice atmosphere. However, I found the dishes a little too strong in flavors, with combinations perhaps excessive or too marked for my taste. The quality is there, but a certain balance is missing. As for the bar, unfortunately the experience was disappointing. We went for an aperitif and ordered two glasses of rosé champagne, but we were served simple sparkling wine, in wet glasses and not even dried before serving. The bill, then, was surprisingly high for what we received. I noticed that other customers also checked the receipt several times, evidently taken by surprise by the prices. In summary: a restaurant with good potential but flavors to be rebalanced; a bar to be reviewed both in terms of service and transparency of prices.

Lovely surroundings with delicious food 🥰

This is the best choice for a romantic dinner in the perfect view of Rome. The taste of the food was indescribably good. Also, the waiter Fillippo who took care of us was very polite and cheerful. Thank you.

Locale incantevole si come terrazza che come ristorante interno, vista eccezionale su Roma, servizio attento e preciso. Molto buono il Gambero bianco su lardo alle erbe e il Controfiletto di agnello, crema di cavolfiore e cime di rapa. Spettacolare la Pluma di maiale, cavolo verde e salsa al topinambur, buona la Guancia di Marango brasata al vino, primo sale e porro paglia croccante. Per finire Castagna, kumquat, meringa e rosmarino delicatissimo e saporito. Ottima scelta di vini. Stupendo

Enchanting place both as a terrace and as an internal restaurant, exceptional view of Rome, attentive and precise service. The white prawn on herbed lard and the lamb sirloin, cauliflower cream and turnip greens are very good. The pork Pluma, green cabbage and Jerusalem artichoke sauce is spectacular, the Marango cheek braised in wine, primo sale and crispy straw leek are good. To finish, chestnut, kumquat, meringue and very delicate and tasty rosemary. Excellent choice of wines. Stupendous

Una delle più belle terrazze di Roma con vista sul Palatino, sul Foro Boario, un panorama che raccoglie dai monumenti dall’antica Roma alle chiese della Roma medioevale, dal Tempio di Ercole all’Arco di Giano alla Chiesa di San Giorgio al Velabro, posta non lontano dal luogo in cui la leggenda colloca il ritrovamento dei gemelli Romolo e Remo da parte della lupa. La cucina è all’altezza di tanta bellezza vi chiederete? No, e d’altronde, se fosse così, il locale dovrebbe avere almeno due stelle. La cucina, fatta con materia prima di qualità, rielabora i piatti tradizionali aggiungendo qualche tocco di modernità ma non spicca per gusto ed originalità. Molto buono il battuto di gamberi freschissimi ma un po’ pasticciati sia le busiate con pesto alla trapanese con pescato del giorno sia il baccala pil pil (ricetta portoghese senza però il tocco piccante che la caratterizza).
