INCIPIT: A silent giant WHERE IT IS LOCATED: On Via Rosa Raimondi Garibaldi, in the 10th District (Ostiense), stands the Palazzo della Regione Lazio, a building many Romans know only as "the headquarters of the Region." This review does not address the important work that takes place there, but rather the building's history and architecture. HISTORY BRIEF: The building was built as the national headquarters of INAM, one of the great mutual aid organizations of the 20th century in Italy. With the abolition of INAM, the building passed to the Lazio Regional Council in 1980. ARCHITECTURE: The complex is an example of post-World War II rationalist architecture, which focused more on functionality than representation. It is composed of three distinct structures, each with its own purpose. The windows punctuate the building's floors. FUN FACT: DID YOU KNOW THAT...? The street is dedicated to Rosa Raimondi Garibaldi, wife of Ricciotti Garibaldi and a figure linked to the family of the Hero of Two Worlds. A PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: It's not marked by the large tourist signs; I had the opportunity to see it from Garbatella Park, so I got closer and saw it in detail.
