There, under the warm lights, Don Gerardo reigned like a king of meat, golden fries guarding him, sausages and vegetables forming a crown. Next to him, the Brewer's Plate carried his cutlet like a crispy armor against hunger and the cold of the heart. Between a sip of foamy beer and a laugh that broke the night, we learned that happiness was a long table, a friend beside us, and time forgotten outside. But Diego Ciccetto no longer pours drinks, no longer welcomes us with the big smile that smelled of home and autumn. Alina, with trembling hands, will close the door forever, and the echoes of toasts will remain eternally imprisoned within the walls. Campli will have an emptiness that no glass can fill, and we will carry in our hearts the salty taste of those evenings, the smell of the kitchen, the warm light of the Refectory... and the sweet and bitter weight of a farewell that tastes like half-poured beer.
