The restaurant was really good the problem is that it’s a bit too expensive for a family of 347

A wonderful experience at Pizzeria Vigliena! The staff was incredibly friendly and made us feel very welcome. We ordered the classic Margherita, the octopus spaghetti, and two orders of fried seafood. Everything was fresh and very tasty. Highly recommended if you are in the area!

For those seeking classic Neapolitan cuisine or pizza in a non-touristy setting, frequented by locals, at competitive prices. The restaurant takes its name from the area of eastern Naples where it is located and is closely linked to a historical figure and an important fortification of the city.
In fact, the name "Vigliena" derives from the noble title of Juan Manuel Fernández Pacheco y Zúñiga, Marquis of Villena, who was the last viceroy of Spanish Naples, in office from 1702 to 1707.
The viceroy commissioned the construction of a fortification to defend the city's port and the eastern coast, building the fort of the same name around 1706.
The importance of the Vigliena Fort meant that the name "Vigliena" was extended to identify the entire coastal area and the beach in front of it, which today is part of the San Giovanni a Teduccio neighborhood of Naples, an autonomous municipality until 1925.
The Vigliena Fort is famous for being the scene of a crucial event during the Neapolitan Revolution of 1799: on June 13, the fort was besieged by Sanfedista troops led by Cardinal Ruffo, who were fighting against supporters of the newly formed Republic. Parthenopean. The Republicans, surrounded and with no hope of escape, decided not to surrender. Rather than fall into enemy hands, they detonated the fort's magazine and gunpowder, causing a tremendous explosion that engulfed them and part of the besiegers.
This extreme action made the Fort of Vigliena a symbol of the sacrifice and extreme heroism of the patriots of the Parthenopean Republic.
Today, the remains of the Fort of Vigliena are considered a National Monument and are located not far from the pizzeria of the same name, testifying to the history that gave the entire town its name.
The restaurant is located on Via Ponte dei Granili, a road that was one of the main arteries leading out of the city; The "Granili" refers to a huge structure built in the immediate vicinity of the bridge and the port. Originally large grain warehouses, they were also used over the centuries as military barracks and, in later periods, as public housing, especially after the bombings of World War II. They were an imposing complex that dominated the eastern coastal landscape.
The complex, damaged by the war, was a symbol of postwar poverty in Naples, also described in Anna Maria Ortese's work "The Sea Does Not Bathe Naples." It was completely demolished in 1953 to make way for port activities and the highway junction.

Pizzeria Vigliena is truly a remarkable place for authentic Italian pizza.
The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and beautifully maintained.
The staff welcomes you with kindness and genuine hospitality.
From the very beginning, you feel taken care of.
The pizza is without a doubt the star of the experience.
The dough is light, soft, and incredibly easy to digest.
The crust is airy and perfectly cooked, with just the right texture.
Every ingredient tastes fresh and of excellent quality.
The Margherita stands out as a perfect balance of simplicity and flavor.
