There are restaurants where you eat well, and then there are places that stay in your heart. Piano Liguori undoubtedly belongs to the latter category.
We called Signora Maria that morning to ask if we could try the famous Ischian rabbit. She simply replied, "Come, I'll take care of it." Only later did we discover that she had prepared the rabbit especially for us, just hours earlier. A gesture of generosity and authenticity that is truly rare these days.
To get there, you have to earn it. Our scooter gave up at the beginning of the climb, and we continued on foot under the sun. Twenty minutes of effort that, once we arrived, were completely forgotten.
One of the most beautiful views I've ever seen opened up before us: Capri, Vesuvius, Mount Faito, and an endless sea. A place worth the trip alone.
Signora Maria welcomed us as if we were family friends. A pitcher of water with fresh lemons, a jug of homemade white wine, and immediately after, bucatini with rabbit sauce arrived, complemented by a local aged cheese that made them simply perfect.
Then came the star: a masterfully cooked Ischian rabbit, tender, juicy, and full of flavor, complete with all the innards, just as tradition dictates. A dish that tells the story of the island far better than any guidebook.
As if that weren't enough, during lunch we were accompanied by two cats and a dog, patient and delightful, who enthusiastically appreciated the bones we left behind. They made the atmosphere even more familiar and genuine.
At the end of lunch, we spoke with Signora Maria, who told us a little about her story. At that moment, we realized we hadn't just come to eat, but to live an experience.
As a chef living and working in Sydney, I'm fortunate to often eat at excellent restaurants. Yet this was one of the most authentic and memorable gastronomic experiences I've had in recent years. You don't come here just for the food, but for the people, the view, the journey required to get there, and the heart Maria puts into every single dish.
Thank you for everything, Maria. I'm sure that when I return to Ischia, my first reservation will be with you again.

Very friendly. Giro also speaks a little German. The food is very tasty and delicious. The view is beautiful in good weather, and you can easily spend a lot of time here. There's also often a complimentary treat from the house, which is always delicious.

The walk up to Piano Liguori is half the experience — peaceful, winding, and wonderfully off the beaten track. We barely passed another soul on the way up, which felt like a real treat. Fair warning: it’s a proper climb, so wear your good shoes! But every step is worth it.
When you arrive, it feels less like a restaurant and more like being welcomed into someone’s home, specifically, your favourite Italian nonna’s home. The views from the top are absolutely unbeatable; I genuinely couldn’t stop staring. And the food? Simple, honest, and completely delicious. The kind of cooking that reminds you why Italian cuisine is loved the world over. We are vegetarian and had a classic bruschetta, a tomato salad and spaghetti with garlic.
The whole atmosphere is wonderfully homely, made even more so by the two cats and a dog wandering about, doing exactly what they pleased. The lady serving us didn’t speak English and our Italian is far from fluent, but somehow we understood each other perfectly, and that in itself felt like part of the charm.
I will be back every single time I visit Ischia. Don’t miss this one. 🍋🌿

A STUNNING place. A must-see if you're following the trail. Mr. Ciro (and Argo) welcomed us with kindness and simplicity. A mid-route refreshment point where you can enjoy excellent dishes at a very fair price and, given the unique location, incredible. At the end of lunch, they offered us dessert, coffee, an after-dinner drink, and directions to our car. If we hadn't stumbled upon this place by chance (lunch wasn't part of the trek), we would have missed the best lunch we had on Ischia. Thank you, Ciro, and a big hug to Argo, who, drawn by our Nina, accompanied us along the first stretch of the trail.

I didn't know about this restaurant, but I discovered it by chance while walking from Campagnano. We had our sandwiches, but the very kind owner let us use the table. We had two beers for 5 euros. A great place!
