Good pizza, good price, and the workers were very kind. We were easily able to get what we wanted and the food was fresh and tasty. I would recommend. The only downside is their bathroom. Their toliet and sink are really old and there were no paper towels. On the plus side, it was free, so I call it a wash!

🍕 Pizza House da Ciro: The Temple of Old-School Pizza in Ostia
On a quiet street in Lido di Ostia, a hidden gem offers simple yet extraordinary cuisine: Pizza House da Ciro, personally managed by Ciro Vitiello, who is at his electric oven every day, pampering customers with his pizza made the way it used to be.
My favorite? The classic Margherita.
🧱 Retro atmosphere and rustic authenticity
The place doesn't aim for flashiness, but rather captivates with its authentic and slightly spartan atmosphere: simple furnishings, quiet walls, and a few tables or takeout spaces. A casual, transparent place: here, only the pizza matters, prepared as it was decades ago, without frills and with the great personality of those who appreciate true flavor.
🧀 Quality ingredients, simple and generous pizza
The dough is classic Roman pizza, thin, crispy, and well-cooked in the electric oven that Ciro has mastered for years. The mozzarella? Very fresh. The toppings? Abundant. The pizzas are generous: the rich Capricciosa, the savory Margherita, the dry and flavorful Marinara. You can taste it all in the bite: simplicity, raw ingredients, and substance.
What's more, the supplì and croquettes are artisanal, made by Ciro himself: small fried masterpieces, flavorful but not greasy.
One of the most frequent concerns: "Book the pala or the rotonda so you don't end up empty-handed" – because everything goes by so quickly when the quality is so consistent.
👨🍳 Ciro Vitiello: constant presence & gruff affability
The heart of the place is Ciro Vitiello, who has been running his bakery with tenacity and dedication for over forty years. He's known for his rough personality, but those who frequent it return especially for the pizza and that unique blend of professionalism and affection "in his own way."
📊 Experiential Summary
Element: What to Expect: Pizza: Roman-style, thin, crispy, generously topped. Ingredients: Fresh mozzarella, simple, quality ingredients. Fried: Artisanal suppli and croquettes, flavorful and dry. Prices: Fair: whole pizza €6–7, shareable peel. Ordering and Availability: Reservations recommended due to width and cuts. Staff/Owner: Ciro: gruff but present, attentive to customers. Atmosphere: Modest, informal, unpretentious.
📝 Conclusion
Pizza House da Ciro is not an Instagram-worthy restaurant, but a haven for those seeking authentic, generous pizza worthy of the pizzerias of the past. Here, simplicity is celebrated in every slice: traditional dough, generous toppings, a tango of flavor and memories. Ciro is the guardian of this experience: a handmade pizza chef, with a few gruff undertones, but with a visceral attachment to the customer and his work.
If you're passing through Ostia and want a pizza that tastes like time, effort, and care, Pizza House da Ciro is an essential stop: few words, big on flavor.
