Dondi has always been my number one place for breakfast, not just in Modena
Amazing cappuccino
Usually excellent pastries
Today, the chocolate braids and the ones with raisins didn't seem as fresh as usual, a hint of dissatisfaction, even though I'm used to the superior quality of this pastry shop where I've been going, albeit intermittently, for decades.
There's a second issue:
Tables occupied by people who had long since finished eating; it was 9:30.
It would be enough to come by and clear the table; it's part of the service.
By doing so, those who lack the sensitivity and education to understand that there are people standing, waiting, and standing, eating would probably understand the need to clear the table and make room for those who have a better right to it.
These are two points for improvement.
Not criticisms.
I'm truly sorry not to give Dondi pastry shop the 5 stars it deserves for many reasons, and certainly not just today.

A very nice little place for breakfast. Savory and sweet specialties. Fair prices and great taste. It seems to be an insider tip, even among the locals. We'd love to go back!

It was a sweet, sweet discovery.
It's a pastry shop where you go because you want to go and because someone takes you there. But after going the first time, you go back and back and back...
Zabaglione cappuccino (no need to add sugar: I'm writing this because I was doing this nonsense and luckily I was stopped by the lovely person who took me there): a super delight prepared by a special professional behind the counter. He's the only one who "packages" them in the pastry shop, he does it with all his heart, head tilted to the side, repetitive movements that time has fixed as if they were part of a secret alchemy (it should be patented). And then the cream-filled cannoli, crunchy and too tasty to resist the special combination with the zabaglione cappuccino. But I also smelled the inviting aroma of the fried gnocco, piping hot, just out of the oven.
There's nothing better to start or enhance a day.

One of Modena's most renowned pastry shops, offering specialty and excellent pastries. Unfortunately, the space is tiny and always crowded, so be prepared to have breakfast standing up. Service is fairly quick considering the number of customers, but the counter is always crowded.

Excellent coffee. Lots of locals. Fresh baked items arriving constantly. If you’re driving to Modena from Bologna, it’s well worth the 3 min detour.

One of the bars that made the history of Modena. Not so much for the friendship that binds the owner with Vasco but rather for the care of the hood which becomes the best in Modena (with mascarpone and chocolate chips....a delight).
The pastas?
The top.
The only flaw is the small space but this way you spend less time chatting and concentrate on the food.
