Osteria Vecchio Casale ai Pioppi In Viareggio

CASALE TUSCANO Tuscany trip. For our dinner, we've booked at Vecchio Casale ai Pioppi, a typical Tuscan trattoria nestled in the heart of the Viareggio countryside. The atmosphere is traditional and elegant, and the waiter is enterprising, sometimes over-the-top, but friendly. First, a bottle of still water and a bottle of red wine. We're going for the classic, a 2022 Chianti DOCG from Azienda L'Erta in Radda - Radda in Chianti (SI). It's delicious. Our dinner can begin with a mixed house antipasto. A series of dishes served in quick (but not too quick) succession. A platter of mixed cold cuts (prosciutto crudo, finocchiona, salami, and coppa), condiglione, a small bowl of flavored olives, crostini with chicken liver pâté, and some melon boats, followed by other hot dishes: zucchini quiche, squares of polenta with mushrooms, another leek quiche, and potato and cheese croquettes. The appetizers were generous, but could be improved. The crostini with pâté and the cold cuts were excellent, paired with an excellent basket of bread and focaccia, but the other dishes were less intriguing, perhaps too vintage. We continued the dinner by sharing a Tagliata served bone-in on a wooden cutting board with a side of baked potatoes. The meat was rare, as we requested, and again, a generous portion; I'd say it was a good dish. We ordered two coffees and the bill. The total cost was €100. Overall, a decent dinner, the abundance was appreciable, but the quality/price ratio was unconvincing.

Coming back from Piombino, a very convenient location near the motorway exit. The friendly owner, who has some valuable bicycles in his car, let us park near the entrance to keep an eye on them. Fast service, typical Tuscan dishes, and a great atmosphere.

A place where I felt at home. The staff was fantastic, knowledgeable, kind, and willing to help me with my conversions, just the way I like them. The food was top-notch, so it deserved 5 stars. 💪💪💪

This trattoria was recommended by friends. We were greeted warmly and kindly by the courteous and professional staff, knowledgeable and ready to offer the best recommendations based on your tastes. From the appetizers to the delicious first courses and equally delicious meat-based main courses, the warmth of the fireplace complements the warm and welcoming atmosphere. The prices are fair; a full meal excluding wine costs around €40. If you're happy with your meal, it's even €30. Highly recommended, thanks to the entire staff; we had a wonderful time.

Went for dinner with colleagues in December 2025. The atmosphere was beautiful and well-kept, the food good, and the service decent (theoretically, you get little or no choice; in the end, they bring you what they say, but overall, that's fine). The only downside is that you have to be very careful with your cars; the restaurant has a large private, but unattended, parking lot. When we left, we found three out of five cars unlocked, and in one, the contents of the trunk were stolen. The restaurant doesn't have security cameras or security service except on weekends, and not always. It's a shame that the restaurant is worth it, as is the food, but after this bad experience, I don't think we'll be back. Eating while worrying about someone opening your car isn't ideal.

Beautiful, well-maintained place, the rustic atmosphere perfectly complements the food, which is locally sourced, with some dishes perhaps a little salty, but still delicious. There's not a great selection of wines in the regions outside of Tuscany. The only downside is that the unattended parking has led to both my car and others being stolen, which, after the rather steep bill, wasn't easy to stomach.

Excellent quality products, retro atmosphere but the waiters are not the best
