Osteria Spezza In Cassolnovo

I was invited to this tavern by a friend of mine (he had already been). Very good dinner, excellent quality of the products, all homemade. Excellent quality/price, it really surprised me. I will definitely return.

I had the pleasure of having lunch at Osteria Spezza and I was thrilled. The restaurant is small, intimate and very well-kept, with a warm and welcoming atmosphere that makes you feel at home right away. The cuisine is simple but authentic, with local dishes prepared with fresh ingredients and great attention. The menu is limited but well-selected, and each course is rich in flavor and tradition. A great strength is the kindness and friendliness of the managers, who welcome customers with genuine cordiality, making the experience even more pleasant. I highly recommend booking in advance, especially on weekends, because the restaurant has few seats and is really worth a visit. A real osteria, without frills, where you eat well and feel even better.

The latest gastronomy investigation took Watson and myself to Cassolnovo: I must admit that until that moment, this town had always been just a transit location to reach Vigevano; instead I discovered a place still anchored to the traditions of the past that lives on agriculture. The town is not small at all, so much so that the Spezza tavern, our destination, is located in a hamlet, separated from Cassolnovo by the state road. After booking (mandatory, but above all necessary given the small number of places) we went as usual to the opening which, to find freshly baked bread at the table, must not be before eight in the evening. Here, in a single room where there is also a cold cuts counter, you are welcomed by the owner, whose wife is usually behind the stove. Extreme simplicity, extreme courtesy, extreme availability: these are the characteristics of the restaurant and the property. On the walls a good choice of Piedmontese and Lombardy wines with absolutely competitive prices. The menu, declared verbally by the owner and shown on a blackboard, is based on the availability of products of the day. Watson and I order a small platter for two (it's not small at all and the cured meats and cheeses are first choice) as an appetizer, two risottos with Castelmagno and hazelnuts and some veal rump with potatoes. The preparation is homemade, not by a starred chef, but everything is genuine and the 20 seats available mean that you immediately become part of a large family made up of a few customers with the two owners acting as hosts. With a bottle of 2023 Cascina Fiorenza Langhe Nebbiolo, a coffee and a dessert, we spend only €30 each!

Posto piccolo e accogliente, ho mangiato e bevuto benissimo con un prezzo veramente onesto… assolutamente da consigliare. Il titolare poi è stato particolarmente gentile.

Cozy place, top hospitality, very appetizing dishes of Piedmontese origin at very low prices... definitely worth trying again!

Osteria Spezza ... is located in Piazza 24 Maggio number 5 ... in Cassolnovo, province of Pavia. Here booking is mandatory, it has high chairs for children, and our 4-legged friends are allowed here, it is a simple place which however offers excellent home-style cuisine with excellent, good quality ingredients. Here you can drink excellent wines at the table and enjoy very particular local desserts but with a unique goodness of its kind... and excellent tarts. The dishes are very abundant and there are also delicious platters, both of cured meats and cheeses, what I can tell you...and that the owners are nice and honest people...who do their job with delight...with love...respecting tradition, what else can I tell you...if you pass by Cassolnovo, come to this restaurant you will be surprised.

Few dishes of excellent quality, welcoming managers like at home, prices of times gone by. Highly recommended!!
