We were descending from Gressoney and set ourselves a mission: to eat some good polenta (preferably concia) at an osteria or piola on the way back.
Needless to say, there were so many options, and we chose based partly on photos and partly on the menus.
Osteria Mansio 1695 was an extraordinary discovery: nestled in a small hamlet on the western side of the valley, it can be reached by car and then a two-minute walk into the village of Perloz. It's so hidden that, without the numerous signs left by the owners, it would have been very easy to miss. Inside and out, several ancient parts of the structure and fixtures have been preserved, lending a warm, mountain-like atmosphere, yet without sacrificing a few modern touches that make it truly delicious.
And let's not even talk about the food! While the portions weren't as generous as we'd hoped for based on the "Osteria" name, the flavor was truly stellar, with ingredients that tasted local from the first bite. A delicacy I'm really struggling to find in any restaurant these days, whether "swanky" or more homey.
A completely accidental discovery, but one that will most likely become a tradition every time we visit someone in the area.
And last but not least, the staff (both young and old) were always delightful, from the welcome to the moment we paid the bill.

Nestled among the narrow streets of the charming village of Perloz, this osteria is warm and welcoming. Simply furnished, it gives you a homey feel.
The menu offers traditional dishes, made with authentic, quality ingredients. The venison fillet with red berries and dark chocolate and the onion soup are excellent, as are the platter of local cured meats and cheeses.
The staff is courteous and very attentive.

Very nice little place... everything was delicious, the girl was very helpful even though she was just an employee (she acted like an owner, even in
explaining the dishes well).
The desserts were great, not cloyingly sugary. ❤️ well done.

Excellent food that brings to mind primordial flavors, blending and integrating Umbrian and Aosta Valley cuisine.
The sliced steak is heartwarming, I wouldn't exaggerate.
