Osteria Mangia e Bevi In Palermo

I came to Palermo to stay with my cousins. The dinner was epic: the cod with caponata reminded me of the foods and flavors of yesteryear. The wine was excellent. I digested everything without any problems. The place was quite noisy. The service was quick and friendly.

Typical Sicilian dishes cooked just like at home. Everything was delicious. The dishes with sauces were especially recommended (muddy octopus, sardine meatballs). The swordfish rolls could be improved. All the appetizers were delicious: cod meatballs, mixed arancini, mangia e bevi, and cacio all'argentiera. Good value. Good service. Recommended!

A typical restaurant, we went there for New Year's Eve dinner. Simple dishes and generous portions.

Excellent food, their ribs pasta was unbelievable and one of the best pasta I had in Palermo.

Good overall but I don’t think I’d go back. The quality of the food was really good overall, with a few exceptions (e.g. the “sarde at beccafico” were served too raw and the taste wasn’t great ro be honest, even after they cooked them again, also the “arancine” were “just ok”). The bread deserves a chapter by itself: first of all the quality was very basic (which is a pity for a place like this) and the quantity they brought very low and you needed to keep asking for more. After a couple of times, they replied: “we don’t have any more bread”, which was clearly a lie because they kept serving bread to new tables. The reason might be because they push back after a couple of times you ask for more, which is ridiculous for a place like this! They ended up bringing us more after we said how disappointed we were (I think they defrosted it or something like this).

The restaurant is very charming and quaint; it feels like you're dining in a courtyard in Palermo from days gone by. The food selection is truly extensive and can satisfy any craving. Overall, I liked the dishes I ate, but they weren't exactly thrilling. The prices are in line with similar establishments in the city. We had a few issues with the service: the appetizer arrived later than the others, and one of the dishes was the wrong one... it can happen.

A nice, unpretentious restaurant in the middle of a small square between two oratorios worth visiting. The fish of the day (swordfish), with olives and capers, was very good, but a potato on the side would have been welcome.
