Lunch included horsemeat stew on a bed of toasted polenta, with a side of rosemary-roasted potatoes. A delicious semi-balloon glass of Lambrusco Mantovano. Reasonable price.

A good trattoria where you can enjoy typical Mantuan dishes. You can also opt for the tasting menu, which for €38, excluding drinks, allows you to sample traditional cured meats accompanied by apple mustard and toasted polenta, pumpkin ravioli, riso alla pilota, horse stew with toasted polenta, and the typical sbrisolona cake, all of which are excellent.

The pumpkin-based first courses were excellent, I would prefer a few more choices for the second courses, the dessert was very good.

Good, balanced, and elegant, in a casual and pleasant atmosphere. The cuisine is excellent and the attention to detail are their strong points. For the fifth star, I'd like to see more tradition and also offer a rustic version of Mantua salami (with a hint of garlic) as well as a mustard with character and a tangy bite! It would be better to offer a tacky version of salami and mustard on the menu, in addition to the "sadly" light version.

We went to this restaurant for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed it. The food was very good, and the service was impeccable. If you're in Mantua, you should definitely eat here.

14/10/2025: A welcoming, homey atmosphere, very friendly staff. I made a reservation for the second sitting at 9:30 PM; the place was packed (which gives me hope). The pumpkin tortelli with butter and sage were very good, though the portions were a bit small. For my second course, I ordered the musso with polenta: the donkey meat was a bit bland and not very tender, a bit of a disappointment. A bottle of mineral water, 1/4 of the house Lambrusco, and coffee were included. Total cost: €48. The prices are clearly displayed on the menu, but in my opinion, they're a far cry from the prices of a typical osteria/trattoria. It's my first time dining in Mantua, and I don't know the average prices for other restaurants, but I wasn't entirely satisfied. Given the osteria's reputation, I expected more.

Osteria da Bice la Gallina Felice

14/10/2025: I spotted Bice a year ago when I was in Mantua for a wedding, and I promised myself I'd go next time I was in the city! The chicken figurines decorating the restaurant are truly charming 🐔❤️ The dishes are quite generous and very good, the plating is thoughtful but unpretentious, appropriate for the type of place. The location is quiet, even though it's close to a main road. I found the service a bit aloof, but above all, inattentive and slow. We were the first to arrive for lunch, which was fortunate, but we still had to wait up to half an hour between courses, while customers who arrived after us waited even longer simply to order. The service organization needs revising. It's a shame about the toilets.
28/09/2025: Very good food and adequate portions, good service, they don't rush you at all, in fact you feel at ease.
