Antica Osteria ai Ranari In Mantova

My wife and I came to use a wonderbox that was about to expire, fortunately the owner accepted the voucher even though she was no longer included in the wonderbox program. We ate a platter of really excellent cold cuts with fantastic onions, the wine in the glass was very good Lambrusco, then we had two risottos alla pilota and... Fantastic! I was curious to try real pilot rice, coming from the typical creamed risotto of Verona, and I was surprised at how good it was. Finally we had two really good desserts (outside the wonderbox): Belgian chocolate pudding and Elvezia cake. Both amazing, we split them up to taste them and so we finished on a high note. As you have understood, the experience was more than positive, if we pass through Mantua again we will certainly return, because the rest of the menu was very interesting and the rustic and hospitable environment was very welcoming. I highly recommend everyone to go there if you are passing through, we will certainly be back.

Historic tavern in Mantua, perfect for refreshment while visiting the city's artistic heritage. Warm and welcoming environment, friendly and efficient service, excellent menu with many local dishes. We started with a selection of Lombard cheeses, including a very interesting blue cheese (like Gorgonzola) from Piedmont. Followed by excellent pumpkin tortelli with butter and sage and pumpkin gnocchi with cinnamon, in which the spice flavor was a little too dominant. As second courses, fried frogs and vegetables, delicious and fried with crispy and light golden batter and pike with polenta. Finished with sbrisolona and fabulous moscato zabaglione. With coffee and water we spent €90 between us.

Very welcoming tavern with excellent specialties to taste. Everything was delicious, especially the horse stew with polenta. Friendly and fast service. Visit Mantua, a beautiful city and stop here for a pleasant break. It's worth it!

We were looking for a traditional mantuan place and this is the best place to get it. The selection of cheese from the area was good and surprising, the ravioli filled with pumpkin were really delicious and the fried frogs were crisp and tender, the sbricciola with sabayon for dessert was really tasty. All portions were abundant and the price correct with a good service.

We went to Ai Ranari after a show at the Palaunical, not being from Mantua I was looking for something traditional to enjoy typical local dishes. We had a great time, very nice and welcoming place, excellent food from starters to dessert, very kind staff. We will definitely be back!!!

Piatti tipici e ampia scelta. Ho gustato tortelli in brodo, antipasto di salumi e formaggi tipici, ‘gnocchi fritti’ con salumi e bevuto lambrusco mantovano.

Gia' l'insegna ti mette di buonumore. L'interno è quello tipica di osteria ma con la sua raffinatezza, tavoli anche ben distanziati. Sorbir d'agnoli di antipasto è gia' uno strepitoso biglietto da visita, poi ...se vai in un posto che si chiama i Ranari...come rinunciare alle rane fritte? Anche se ormai da queste parti non se ne trovano piu', sempre gustose sono, ancor piu' con una frittura veramente molto delicata. Ma ci sono anche il riso pilota, tipica specialita' mantovana e polenta con luccio, fra le tante proposte. Una delle migliori sbrisolone a concludere una degna cena.
