The first courses were excellent, the meat and desserts were also good.

Family atmosphere, friendly and professional service, excellent food and generous portions.
The broccoli and arzilla soup is fantastic, the other first courses and the grilled meat are delicious.
The owner, who personally prepared the soup, is very friendly.

We stopped at this restaurant on our way back to Rome because of traffic, and it was amazing! The prices were reasonable, and the food was delicious—every dish was just right. 5 stars!

Osteria del Malpasso is a journey through time and the flavors of authentic Rome. There are places we visit to eat, and then there are those special places where every bite tells a story, where the walls themselves seem to hold memories of a bygone era. Osteria del Malpasso, on Via Pontina Vecchia, undoubtedly belongs to this second category, and I can tell you that if I could bestow Honors and Academic Kiss on a restaurant, I would do it here without a second thought.
The story begins in 1910; it's impossible to talk about this place without starting from its deep roots. The Osteria del Malpasso was founded in 1910 by "Sora" Paola, so we're talking about over 115 years of uninterrupted tradition. Historical texts tell us that there was a post for horses here, a key stopping point along the old Via Pontina. The large interior room today was the stable, and outside you can still see the fountain.
Across the street is the Presidential Estate of Castelporziano. This place has witnessed History with a capital H, welcoming kings and peasants, soldiers and travelers, and continues to welcome us all today with the same generosity as always.
When I speak of the Osteria del Malpasso, I'm not just talking about good food. I'm talking about something deeper, more visceral: I'm talking about a place that exudes tradition—not static, but a living, handed-down tradition, for which one can only feel sincere respect and admiration.
Every time you cross the threshold, you feel like you're entering a world of the Rome of old, that Rome. Authentic, popular, genuine, where food was conviviality, where sitting at the table meant much more than filling your stomach.
Cuisine is a Journey Through Authentic Flavors.
Traditional Roman first courses are prepared as they should be, with the wisdom that comes only from generations of experience. But here they don't just repeat recipes from the past: there are also some reinterpretations, like the grey veal with artichokes, which, I warn you, will make you forget any diet plans you had in mind.
The mixed grill is the best mixed grill I've ever eaten in my life. And I'm not kidding. The quality of the meat is exceptional, the cooking is perfect. What seems simple but requires mastery, experience, and passion. Every bite is an explosion of flavor, that authenticity that has become so rare to find these days.
Among the dishes whose recipe I "copied": frigitelli stuffed with meat and cooked in sauce. When I say "known," I mean it was A true revelation. One of those recipes that, after tasting it for the first time, you can't help but try to recreate at home. But the chicken with peppers and rabbit cacciatore are also dishes you absolutely must try, and don't forget to mop up the sauce!
The side dishes are incredibly fresh and strictly seasonal. N.B.: when the time comes, the artichokes and puntarelle are not to be missed.
Leave room for the Grand Finale: The Ricotta and Sour Cherry Tart is the perfect dessert to end a memorable meal.
The most precious aspect of the Osteria del Malpasso is also the atmosphere, with that feeling of being at home that envelops you as soon as you enter. Authentic friendliness, a genuine homely aroma that can't be faked because you're not just a customer, you're a guest, you're almost a member of the family. And that makes all the difference in the world.
A necessary and sincere thank you, A. and all the wonderful staff of the osteria, thank you for caring for this treasure with such passion, for Passing on flavors and traditions that would otherwise risk being lost, to make every diner feel part of something special, something greater. In an age where everything seems fast-paced, standardized, and the same, you continue to make a difference.
Osteria del Malpasso is a place worth visiting at least once in your life. And then, guaranteed, you'll return. Because some places, you simply never forget.

What a wonderful place! Not only is the food divine (even I, a vegetarian, was satisfied), but what I'd like to share in this review is how Alessandra, the owner and queen of the kitchen, saved my Christmas. It was 11:00 a.m. on December 25th, and my mom, my partner, and I were left without Christmas lunch due to an unexpected event. We called without much hope, but when Alessandra realized we were truly disappointed and didn't know what to do, a miracle happened: she said she'd put us at a makeshift table, but she'd still feed us. I'll start by saying that the restaurant was packed, but thanks to her generous gesture, our holidays were celebrated as well. A restaurant is certainly made up of the food, the setting, the atmosphere, but above all, it's all made up of the people who work there, and Alessandra proved to be simply wonderful. Long live Osteria del Malpasso.

We had the pleasure of a pleasant dining experience in this beautiful, quiet place, with friendly staff and traditional cuisine, sometimes with sweet twists that enrich the palate... We'll definitely be returning to continue sampling the excellent dishes...

Excellent value for money, with generous and tasty dishes, like their gricia with homemade pasta, which I truly enjoyed. I was less impressed with the service, which was inattentive and disconnected, with incorrect orders and above-average wait times. I hope it's just a coincidence due to the Sunday rush, although to be honest, when we arrived, which was early, the dining rooms weren't yet full. I'd return for a truly good meal, but with a different level of service; otherwise, it's not worth the effort.

Osteria Malpasso in Rome is one of those places that manages to combine authenticity, a welcoming atmosphere, and impeccable Roman cuisine. From the moment you step inside, you sense the warmth of a true osteria, where tradition and attention to detail coexist in perfect harmony. The staff is friendly, smiling, and always ready to professionally recommend the daily specials or the best wine pairings.
The cuisine is the restaurant's true strength. Each dish speaks of Rome with full, authentic, and well-balanced flavors. The carbonara is just the right amount of creamy, prepared with quality ingredients that enhance the recipe without overturning it. The amatriciana and cacio e pepe are also excellent, executed with a precision that demonstrates great respect for tradition. Don't miss the light and crispy homemade fried foods and the artisanal desserts that round out the meal perfectly.
The relaxed atmosphere, combined with attentive yet unobtrusive service, makes Osteria Malpasso the ideal place for both a dinner with friends and a more intimate evening. A place to remember and, above all, one to return to again and again. Highly recommended!

We stumbled upon it almost by accident, but we were very pleased with the welcome, the food, and the outdoor garden. We'll be back.
