Good morning. Today we drove to Caianiello to take the A16 to Benevento. We stopped in Vairano Scalo at the Osteria del Baccalà, finding the restaurant on Maps.
With a little foresight, I thought "THEY ONLY EAT COD." That was fine.
I spent more than I thought, and when I return (I will return!) I'll only order the main courses and then mop up the sauce. The first courses are simply pasta topped with the main course sauce...a bit redundant.
Ignorant location. Be careful ⚠️ don't get involved with the Professor, the owner. He's a good guy but can be arrogant because he wants to teach you something.

I've been to this little restaurant before. The rustic, simple yet welcoming location has friendly staff, and the owner, Professor Ruggiero, is known for his cod recipes. Quality ingredients and unpretentious dishes are served, though the fried cod is a bit salty. Recommended for those who want to enjoy cod dishes with the classic flavor of tasty, delicate home cooking. Not suitable for children.

A tavern run by the Professor, so called because he teaches at a local school. The signature dishes are mussillo, linguettina with cod, and many other preparations using only stockfish and cod. The fried fish is worth mentioning: dry, fragrant, and well-prepared. The dishes are beautifully presented. The dining room staff is friendly.
Highly recommended.

I was very disappointed by the way we were greeted upon entry. The owner told me, "Look, you have to hurry because there's a fire up ahead." So I think if he wanted to make a good impression, it would have been more appropriate to tell me, "Look, we have a problem with a fire and suddenly I can have them closed." But not telling me we have to order quickly because they're closing us. I don't think that was the kind of behavior expected of a place with a certain positive reputation. Anyway, it was a first, and I'm always right.

Locale come lo immaginavo!!! Ottimo il personale cortese e educato, il Professore è stato molto cordiale e ci ha accolto con grande piacere, il cibo dí ottima qualità e cucinato benissimo e al momento, il conto proporzionato alla qualità del cibo.

Il menù è vario, con proposte accattivanti, ma non mi ha convinto il tipo di baccalà, per i miei gusti dovrebbe avere un sapore più deciso; opinione personale però. Buona la carta dei vini e ottimo il servizio, veloce e con personale gentile, cortese e competente. Angusto il locale, riempito troppo per lo spazio disponibile; ci si ritrova letteralmente gomito a gomito con gli altri tavoli. Prezzo leggermente alto x l'offerta. Tutto sommato, da provare, mi riservo anche io di dare una seconda chance; forse in una serata meno affollata.
