Good food, but service with room for improvement!
We came across Oltre because we regularly visit fine dining and Michelin-recommended restaurants – including recently in Italy. We made a last-minute reservation for a spontaneous lunch, and the receptionist was very friendly on the phone.
However, when we arrived, we were greeted rather reservedly and distantly with our baby. The service was correct, but unfortunately not warm – we didn't feel truly welcome. It was particularly unfortunate that a small request (an appetizer and pasta for our child at the same time) was declined – on the grounds that this isn't customary in Italy. Our previous experiences in the country speak differently.
We were also rather rudely informed that the kitchen was closing about an hour before closing time – making it impossible to reorder.
The food itself was delicious and of very good quality – there's nothing to complain about. The non-alcoholic cocktails were also creative and appealing.
But: Anyone expecting a completely relaxed, possibly child-friendly experience might not feel quite at home here.

We went to Oltre for one birthday as we were staying 2 nights in Bologna !
The place is very romantic, small and intimate!
Welcome was nice, and expectations were high due to excellent reviews checked !
It was an excellent diner and we were impressed by the starters (cavallo tonnato for me and ceviche for my girlfriend)
The pasta were good but I can’t see memorable !
Dessert was excellent !
A great diner with remarkable service !

We have been there (myself and my wife) on the 5th of June 25. In the beginning when we entered the restaurant the atmosphere looked a bit gloomy and the lights were dimmed. But the two waiters who were serving us were really knowledgeable about the food and the wines! The food was deeply flavorful and tasty and the pairing of the wines suggested by the sommelier were extremely good!

Summary: I don’t understand the hype about Oltre. Won’t go again. For more details, read on.
Maybe it was just the disappointment after an exceptional lunch at Osteria Antica Mirasole, where we had the best ragù since arriving in Bologna (and perhaps ever next to all the other great dishes). Or maybe it was the fact that the grilled endive with Parmigiano cream was served cold, and the pigeon breast with foie gras medallions were only lukewarm.
Maybe it was because the staff began clearing the tables around us – including the decorative cutlery box – a 1.5 hours before closing, while we were still dining. That’s why we did not go for a dessert.
To be fair, the parmigiano cookie was good, though not mind-blowing. The baccalà (salted cod) cream on polenta was considered good by my partner, though I found it too bland; the polenta‘s dull density overpowered the creamy fish. It lacked the fluffiness that might have made it more interesting and balanced. The ragù was good, but we had a better one at lunch at Mirasole (even though they are not comparable as made from différent meats.) The garganelli were nice.

Modern and softly lit (perhaps a little too much) restaurant. Food and cocktails beyond our expectations. Only note: from the beginning of the dinner, a certain rush emerged from the waiting staff in the service, which clashes with the format proposed by the restaurant. For example, we were drinking the cocktails and we were immediately served the wine, the small pastry together with the dessert, plates and cutlery taken away immediately. We arrived at 9.30 and it is understandable a little more rush, but at 10.30 we were already out, feeling the pressure of wanting to close. We will definitely return for the quality of the dishes, but we will try to arrive earlier.

Do you want the best meal in Bologna? Make a reservation at Oltre. If there are no reservations available, you might get lucky and eat at the bar. It's the same menu. Food is impeccable and the service is stellar. Thank you everyone!

Loved the decor inside. Classy, intimate, modern. Even the entrance was an experience. The service did a great job. The suggested wine was great! Unfortunately, the food (we had the tasting menu oltre and tradizione) only partially met expectations (Michelin recommendation, price range). Some courses were a bit bland for me, tasted rather inconsequential and weren't served warm enough.
Very cool place to eat. They were able fit us in as a late booking on the long table near the bar. Would have given it 5 stars for atmosphere if we made it into the main restaurant. Service was impeccable and the food stunning.

El restaurante nos parecio de lo mas cool. Decoracion sin estridencias pero con detalles muy chulos. Es espacioso y muy acogedor. Todos los platos nos encantaron, pero la pasta estaba exquisita. Situado junto al Mercato delle Erbe, es un sitio muy recomendable. Buen servicio y precio medio / alto. Recomendable

Dopo 5 anni dall’ultima volta, sono tornato finalmente a mangiare in questo ristorante. Personale sempre molto molto professionale, cordiale e disponibile in tutti i momenti, posto particolare esternamente ma molto curato e bello interamente, forse le luci sono un po’ troppo basse, qualità del cibo era proprio come me la ricordavo: molto molto buona.
Abbiamo preso:
-Tagliatelle al ragù, ragù davvero eccellente, buono davvero, il mio piatto preferito
-tortellini in crema di parmigiano
-cotoletta alla bolognese
-simil filetto alla wellington con friggione
Di dolci abbiamo preso due stecchi gelato, uno che ricordava la zuppa inglese e l’altro che ricordava lo snicker, particolari
Peccato che nonostante il menù cambi volta per volta, lo stinco con cavolo cappuccio, che è stata una cosa che mi è rimasta impressa 5 anni fa, non sia più nel menu. Era davvero qualcosa di strabiliante e spero un giorno di tornare a mangiarlo
