A fascinating stop in the heart of Ballarò. The climb to the Torre di San Nicolò — with steep stairs that can be tackled with a little care — leads to a panoramic terrace that offers an unparalleled view of Palermo. From up there you can clearly see the Church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini, the Teatro Massimo, the cloistered monastery of Santa Caterina, Casa Professa, Porta Nuova and, in the distance, the Foro Italico. The presence of the ancient bells adds charm. A white statue of a woman with torn clothes, created by a contemporary artist, is particularly striking: a strong and symbolic image that represents the city, wounded and neglected, but still proud. A work that invites reflection and forcefully recalls the need for restoration, not only of art but of the city itself. A place where history, art and civil conscience meet in an authentic way.
