It was the only restaurant open! We sat down, waiting for the rather gruff owner's approval! The only one who felt comfortable was the very kind and sociable younger waiter.
During the meal, the owner came over to ask us questions and joked around, as if we were his family. Meanwhile, the chef kept staring at us!
At the end of the meal, they kept insisting we order more dessert and coffee!
Once we were finished and ready to pay, they made an excuse that the POS terminal was broken and that we had to pay in cash. Once we paid in cash, the waiter told us that the owner (the manager) was busy, and we waited about ten minutes for the bill and the receipt to arrive!
Once we got up to leave, the owner put his arms around our shoulders and said, "Good?" As if we were one of his relatives. Everything else, the food was delicious. If you have to go to Mamma Lia's, I recommend the Piedmontese ravioli or the polenta! Really good.

It's a beautiful restaurant, the decor is typical but be careful!!! As luck would have it, it's impossible to pay by credit card and the bill is steep, written in Italian. Impossible to decipher! The "food" is very basic, the owner encourages you to order deer or wild boar meat, the bottled water arrives already opened 🥴, (probably tap water). No menu for aperitifs because only in the evening! Italian wine 🍷? Well, then a basic German beer charged without having seen the menu... the surprise later. So an aperitif board for 2, two beers 🍺, a coke, a lasagna, ravioli sprinkled with parmesan, polenta with a piece of beef cheek (cooked like a pot-au-feu, tasteless) 2 desserts, again without a menu to check the price... Well, 126 euros. So I'm going to ask for an explanation because the French know it well, eating in Italy is much cheaper than in France. Last time in Sestriere for 2 we paid 40 euros!! Aperitif, antipasti, two dishes and two desserts!?!? What is this madness? The boss when I asked him to explain the bill not very pleasant, and by the way 9 euros service charge, lol the first time I pay service charge! So run away, on the snow front the restaurants are excellent and really cheap and the menu ♥️. September 2025
