Mame In Firenze

Every year I return to Florence it is my fixed stop! Fresh raw materials, quality and cleanliness are the setting for this little Greek place. Everything freshly prepared and everything visible, from preparation to service. I had never tasted such good stuffed pitas before!

Ogni anno che torno a Firenze è la mia tappa fissa! Materie prime fresche, qualità e pulizia fanno da cornice a questo localino greco. Tutto preparato al momento e tutto a vista, dalla preparazione al servizio. Non avevo mai assaggiato prima, pite farcite così buone!

This little place is legendary, it only opens a few hours for lunch and my husband and I go there often since we live nearby. All the raw materials are of excellent quality and processed by the two owners, he and she, I imagine husband and wife. From the pita to the sauces everything is made on site, with love and to perfection. If I may allow myself a few notes: personally I find the pita a little too thick and spongy, the meat tends to be too little for this thickness and its flavor tends to disappear into that of the bread. The same thing goes for the sauces, which for me were in quantities that were too generous and risked covering the rest of the flavours. The triangles of spanakopita and Tyropita are spectacular, I could eat an industrial quantity of them. Wanting to have a little extra act of love for customers, who even in summer queue in the sun outside the shop, and at lunchtime Via dei Serragli is always in the sun, they could invest in an awning to shade the entrance. Last time the wait was really hard. The two owners are very kind but not very smiling and of few words. Of course, everyone has their own personality and we are not all cheerful and extroverted. However, with such good and authentic food, you miss the Hellenic warmth.

Excellent greek food for a takeaway lunch. Everything is made fresh, so expect to wait for your order. Absolutely worth the wait!
