What can I say except excellent all round! Great home made food, ask to see what Andrea has fresh in that day and fantastic cakes made by Vanessa. An exceptionally welcoming and talented young couple! Just off the main piazza with a raised eating area so you can enjoy your meal and watch the world go by.. well priced and perfect! Must visit..

During a recent trip to visit family in Calabria, I had the absolute pleasure of eating here in Pizzo. It’s cozy spot just out of the piazza run by the incredibly talented duo, Andrea and Vanessa. This small, welcoming restaurant became one of the highlights of my visit, you could really tell there was a passion for food and fresh produce!
I had the swordfish panino, which was cooked to absolute perfection. It was tender, flavourful, and complemented by the choice of salad fillings. My dad opted for the spaghetti in tomato sauce, beautifully fragrant with basil and delicately balanced in flavour. It was simple yet refined, showcasing how just a few quality ingredients can truly shine. My mum was tempted by Andrea’s mention of freshly caught octopus that morning and went with the octopus salad. I had a taste, and it was sublime perfectly cooked, tender, and complemented wonderfully by the crisp, fresh salad.
To finish, we all enjoyed coffee, and Vanessa kindly surprised us with slices of cherry torte. It was a perfect ending to a great lunch. The torte was sweet, light and beautifully crumbly in texture and it left us all with big smiles on our faces!
I had such a lovely meal that I convinced my parents to return with me once more before I left. This time, anchovies were the star! Freshly prepared that morning by Andrea. I had them lightly fried in a seasoned batter with a tomato side salad, a dish that was light yet bursting with flavour. My parents enjoyed them in a pasta dish, with pasta handmade by Andrea and Vanessa themselves. Both dishes were delicious, fresh, and a true showcase of their understanding of balance and flavour, the very essence of Italian cuisine!
And yes, we finished with that same lovely torte!
Andrea and Vanessa are not only skilled chefs but also genuinely warm and welcoming people. Dining at L’Hobbit Risto Pub felt like being invited into a family home for a loving cooked meal. I’m already looking forward to returning next time I’m in Italy. Highly recommended for anyone visiting Pizzo. This place is a true gem and serves as a reminder to wander off down the backstreets for some food from time to time!

Durante un reciente viaje a visitar a la familia en Calabria, tuve el placer absoluto de comer aquí en Pizzo. Es un lugar acogedor justo fuera de la plaza dirigida por el dúo increíblemente talentoso, Andrea y Vanessa. Este pequeño y acogedor restaurante se convirtió en uno de los aspectos más destacados de mi visita, realmente se podía decir que había una pasión por la comida y los productos frescos!
Tenía el panino de pez espada, que se cocinó a la perfección. Era tierno, sabroso y se complementaba con la elección de rellenos de ensalada. Mi papá optó por los espaguetis en salsa de tomate, bellamente fragante con albahaca y delicadamente equilibrado en sabor. Era simple pero refinado, mostrando cómo solo unos pocos ingredientes de calidad pueden brillar realmente. Mi mamá se sintió tentada por la mención de Andrea de pulpo recién capturado esa mañana y fue con la ensalada de pulpo. Tuve un sabor, y fue sublime perfectamente cocinado, tierno, y complementado maravillosamente por la ensalada crujiente y fresca.
Para terminar, todos disfrutamos del café, y Vanessa amablemente nos sorprendió con rodajas de cereza torte. Fue un final perfecto para un gran almuerzo. El torte era dulce, ligero y hermosamente desmenuzable en textura y nos dejó a todos con grandes sonrisas en la cara!
Tuve una comida tan encantadora que convencí a mis padres de regresar conmigo una vez más antes de irme. Esta vez, las anchoas fueron la estrella! Recién preparado esa mañana por Andrea. Los tenía ligeramente fritos en una masa sazonada con una ensalada de tomate, un plato que era ligero pero rebosante de sabor. Mis padres las disfrutaron en un plato de pasta, con pasta hecha a mano por Andrea y Vanessa. Ambos platos eran deliciosos, frescos y un verdadero escaparate de su comprensión del equilibrio y el sabor, la esencia misma de la cocina italiana!
¡Y sí, terminamos con el mismo torte encantador!
Andrea y Vanessa no solo son chefs expertos, sino también personas genuinamente cálidas y acogedoras. Comer en L’Hobbit Risto Pub se sentía como ser invitado a una casa familiar para una comida cocinada con cariño. Ya estoy deseando volver la próxima vez que esté en Italia. Muy recomendable para cualquiera que visite Pizzo. Este lugar es una verdadera joya y sirve como un recordatorio para deambular por las calles traseras para algo de comida de vez en cuando!

During our visit to Pizzo, we came across the L'Hobbit pub restaurant in the alleys, managed with passion and great professionalism by Andrea. An authentic discovery!
We were struck by his friendliness but above all by the quality of the dishes, in particular the excellent fried fish, crunchy, dry and rich in flavour, worthy of the best seafood tables. The spaghetti, then, was a true triumph of taste: perfect cooking and balanced seasonings, with very fresh ingredients that speak of the sea and tradition.
The welcome was warm and familiar with a touch of originality due to the location in a corner of an uphill street.
As people from Bari, we have a demanding palate when it comes to fish — and we can say with certainty that L'Hobbit has nothing to envy of the restaurants in our city. Congratulations to Andrea for the passion and quality he puts into his work every day. We will definitely be back! And we highly recommend it

Durante la visita a Pizzo, ci siamo imbattuti tra i vicoli nel ristorante pub L’Hobbit, gestito con passione e grande professionalità da Andrea. Un’autentica scoperta!
Siamo rimasti colpiti dalla sua cordialità ma soprattutto dalla qualità dei piatti, in particolare l’ottima frittura di pesce, croccante, asciutta e ricca di sapore, degna delle migliori tavole marinare. Gli spaghetti, poi, sono stati un vero trionfo di gusto: cottura perfetta e condimenti equilibrati, con ingredienti freschissimi che parlano di mare e tradizione.
L’accoglienza è stata calorosa e familiare con un tocco di originalità per la location in un corner di una viuzza in salita.
Come baresi, abbiamo un palato esigente quando si parla di pesce — e possiamo dire con certezza che L’Hobbit non ha nulla da invidiare ai ristoranti della nostra città. Complimenti ad Andrea per la passione e la qualità che mette ogni giorno nel suo lavoro. Torneremo sicuramente! E lo consigliamo vivamente
