Highly recommended. Friends and I tried several dishes on the menu, both pasta dishes and sandwiches. Everything is homemade, with local ingredients and dishes. The creamy fava bean and chicory soup is a must-try. The service was quick, and above all, the staff was very courteous and friendly.

We stopped for a quick lunch, ordering a crapiata, a fava bean and chicory salad, and two portions of bread meatballs. Everything was truly excellent, especially the meatballs.

Antica Credenza offers a simple menu with two main categories of dishes: sandwiches and crostones, a traditional local bread used as a base for a bruschetta-style filling. As a popular restaurant with a convenient location, the terrace was full when we arrived, but after a fifteen-minute wait, we were able to sit down and order two crostones: a Diluss alla coppa and a U-Rrà with Black Angus beef carpaccio and truffle oil, all accompanied by a bottle of water and lemonade. The drinks were served quickly: the lemonade came in a glass with ice cubes and a straw, and the water came in two plastic cups, which was a bit of a shame; perhaps two glasses and an aluminum straw would have been more appreciated. However, the plates took about fifteen minutes to arrive, which, given the relatively simple, no-cook dishes, is noteworthy. The dishes featured fresh produce, prepared vegetables, and flavorful meats sliced ​​on-site using a slicer in full view of the customer, two generous slices of lightly toasted bread, and a richly flavored truffle oil. This restaurant offers simple dishes made with quality ingredients that are a delight to enjoy before exploring the old town and its archaeological remains. Perhaps it would have been nice to emphasize the intensity of the toasted bread to make it even crispier and more interesting, just as the arugula would probably have been an even better choice to accompany the Black Angus meat. In short, this is a restaurant you can't go wrong with your eyes closed; your afternoon will be all the better for it.

We had lunch as a couple, with a salad and a Matera crouton with mortadella and mozzarella. Everything was good. The service was a plus, as I had ordered the chicken salad with an avocado sauce, but it was spicy. Since I couldn't tolerate spicy food, I told the waitress, who promptly replaced the dish, quickly bringing back the same salad but without the sauce. Recommended!

We had dinner this evening at this little restaurant overlooking Piazza San Francesco. The food was excellent and plentiful. The owners were truly kind and hospitable. We sampled the local specialties and appreciated this splendid city even more.
