Wednesday and our friend in Montorio is closed, we ask a local friend who directs us to Anfora, not far from Montorio al Vomano in Basciano
The place is very beautiful, a large car park with a pond inside, a chalet that could be an annex or a comfortable place to spend a few days at peace with the world. The large, well-kept location, wood is the protagonist of the interiors, pillars, beams, coverings are in a beautiful material that makes you feel at home
Several rooms that overlook the large internal courtyard with trees and plants, the well-kept and refined mise en place, ours, a nice round table for 6 people, there are 4 of us and it is perfect, the way I like it, the menu is varied and the offer is intriguing, but today we wanted to overdo it and eat some excellent grilled meat, so we immediately head for a slice of Amphora cooked in the oven in rosemary cocotte, then seasonal side dishes, cooked and grilled vegetables and baked potatoes
The choice is immediately confirmed by everyone, so you go for cocotte, lamia rare though!
The wine list is well stocked and even if those of my friend Luigi Ulisse are present, I don't see the legendary Montepulciano d'Abruzzo, so I ask if they also had reds in addition to the legendary Cerasuolo, Pecorino and Cococciola, must wines from Tenuta Ulisse, but the meat asked for a Montepulciano, done well
Asking costs nothing and the answer is a winner, it's not on the menu but it's there so go to Ulisse
My friends are amazed by the body and fruitfulness of this wine and I am proud of it, I send the usual photo to Luigi and we await the cuts
They arrive together with the side dishes, impeccable service, but mine arrives a moment later so as not to make mistakes, perfect
There is nothing to say, even if the cut is not among the most noble and often considered level B, if cooked like this, scented with rosemary which I love, I even marinate mine in wine with rosemary, remarkable experience, compliments
Then I never end a nice lunch without dessert; therefore, I ask them to tell us about them again and they recommend an apple pie, hot from the oven, which arrives on its gheridon in all its splendor, whole to be cut and served with some custard scented with star anise
A passito wine accompanies it to delight in its goodness
Truly an excellent unexpected lunch

I celebrated my birthday at L'Anfora on Saturday evening. The beautiful venue was still decorated for the Christmas holidays. Delicious cuisine, high quality raw materials, professional and kind staff. A commendation for the aubergine pie, the fabulous Anfora tortelloni, and the lamb morsels with porcini mushrooms and potatoes. The fruit cake is excellent. We had such a good time that we left the place really late. I take this opportunity to apologize to the owner and the staff.

A wonderful discovery. A splendid place, with attention to detail and taste. The service was impeccable and the food delicious. High quality products. Our wooden house was welcoming and spotless. The lake view is the added value. I would only recommend improving the breakfast, making it richer, because from a place like this you expect the best even at breakfast. In any case, they served us excellent artisan croissants. A place we hope to return to soon
