My wife and I were passing through (TA) for a weekend. We discovered this place by surfing the internet and reading reviews. Excellent value for money, I'd say 10/10. The food is good and the staff is very friendly. I recommend it!

At Trattoria Da Ciccio (L’Altro Impero) in Policoro, the food is truly delicious: fresh fish cooked to perfection, with simple yet extraordinary flavors. The welcome is what makes the difference: they immediately made us feel at home with samples of fritters and a typical Lucanian soup, a generous gesture steeped in tradition. The food here is simply INCREDIBLE. Just saying “buono” is an understatement. Here everything is delicious. Moreover the service is passionate, kind and always with the right timing, I mean that they take time to explain you the gastronomic secrets of Basilicata without being too much pushy. Really no words to explain how much everything was perfect. I’ll be back here every time I can during my trip. Super advised if you are passing by from this area.

Discovered thanks to TripAdvisor, this trattoria was a wonderful surprise. The atmosphere was warm and familiar, just as you'd expect from a Lucanian restaurant. We tried the cavatelli with black chickpeas and shrimp, the frizzoli with ragù and breadcrumbs, the buffalo mozzarella with cherry tomatoes, and the charcuterie board: everything was delicious and made with the freshest ingredients. The service was courteous and never intrusive. Excellent value for money. We'll definitely be back! 😊

16/05/2026: This restaurant, somewhat removed from the hustle and bustle of Matera's center, is housed in a beautiful, light-filled room with exposed stone walls. But the real highlight is the food. Each dish is prepared with quality ingredients, slowly simmered to concentrate maximum flavor. Add to that a warm welcome from the owner, who speaks French, and a jazzy playlist, and you have a wonderful way to appreciate the magic of Matera. And don't forget the tiramisu, with its homemade sponge cake, prepared fresh to order for a delightful, sweet, but not overly sweet, ending.
09/05/2026: Small-scale restaurant in the center of Matera. Highly recommended if you’ve seen enough of the average pizza and pasta places. There isn't much fish, but the large prawns are very tasty. My husband chose the poached egg as a starter, and both appetizers were very delicious. The main courses were also very good. Finished with tiramisu and a semi freddo. Maybe a bit more expensive, but 1000 times better than the average tourist restaurant. The taste of the region prepared with love.
