29/12/2024: My girlfriend and I had dinner this evening at Osteria Concarena, an osteria that we found thanks to the slow food guide Osteria d'Italia which, as always, does not leave you disappointed.
The restaurant is located in the historic center of Cerveno, very nice, narrow streets, stone, faces and ancient doors, it's worth getting lost in. Park before entering the small center or you will find it a little difficult to get around by car.
The interior, the only thing that could be improved in my opinion, is a bit bare and looks more like a bar than a tavern, with some furniture, studied lighting and better managed space it would be a really nice little place.
The impeccable service, simple but kind, fast, the cook herself came to ask if everything was okay, etc... The simple but super genuine cuisine, traditional dishes, cheese platters, typical cured meats, some more personal twists. Seasonal ingredients (pumpkin, chestnuts, leeks, cabbage, meat) and human-sized dishes, I, who am not a glutton, took all 3 courses plus dessert. This last one was really enjoyable. Local wines and beers, bitters and liqueurs as well. I will definitely stay here again when I'm back in the area.
23/12/2024: Do not sleep on this place - it is absolutely worth a trip up to Cerveno. I love local food and I have eaten and probably every major restaurant in Valecamonica. Osteria Concarena brings something new to the table - if you’re a tourist or passing through, it is worth the detour. We started with the traditional cheese and salami platter - locally made and featuring local staples like horse meat cold cuts and Bagoss. For mains, we had risotto with peperoni and pancetta. Delicious with strong flavours. The casoncelli are a regional speciality done justice - the chef said she makes them with top quality cuts of meat and you can taste it. The local lake fish and polenta was also a delicacy and special. Also, don’t pass in dessert. Everything made in-house and they spent describing the ingredients and cooking process which was fun. The pannacotta with cioccolato fondente was top notch. They conform to the slow food movement and ingredients are local. Price is beyond fair - I would say a good offer. I have a knack for great local spots, so I can’t want to see this place get more recognition. We will definitely be back.
